hi...

please advise me :

which lens is better nikon 50mm f1.8G or sigma 50mm f1.4 EX DG HSM on nikon d800E body?

I'd buy both lenses test it and decide for yourself. With that said I personally would always use the manufactures lens matched to the body if their is a choice.

Do not let anyone spend your money for you. It is you who have to be satisfied with whatever it is you do.

Thanks ryan2007 for your replay,

i can not decide for myself cos i did not test any one of them and i dont know if any one of them has any problems in focusing or sharpness

See if you can rent both.

better in sharpness and accurate focus
The lens is only one factor in getting you sharpness. For the sake of simplicity, I will assume all other things equal (and on an acceptable level).

The Nikkor is slightly sharper wide-open if we approach if from a corner-to-corner aspect. The Sigma is better if we approach it from a center-only aspect.

By f/2.8 the lenses are more or less equal.

Both are the same regarding focus (=it depends on so many things that it becomes meaningless to judge this only by lens alone).

But honestly, you're approaching this from an entirely erroneous (and un-photographic) perspective. Both of these are great lenses, sharp, contrasty, capable of delivering stunning images in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. I've made most of my photography money using an ancient AF-D 50mm f/1.8

Your choice is simple:
- Do you need the f/1.4? If yes, get the Sigma
- Does the f/1.8 suffice? If yes, get the Nikon; spend the rest of the money at your local pub.

Sigma is 1.4, bigger, heavier and made in Japan. I have one and keep it.

Nikon is 1.8, lighter like all thing made of plastic and choniza made. I use to have Nikon and sold it for no apparent reason except of too light and cnaniso origin. However I could not fault it optically.

People saying that Nikon 58/1.4 is sweet. And Zeiss Otus even better.

Choice is yours.

Thanks
Without going into endless debates, the Nikon 50mmf1.8 is better on a D800E than the SIGMA 50f1.4 DG (focusing, sharpness and all). Ok... the 50f1.8 is plastic fantastic but hell !! look at the performance/price.

Now, if you define yourself as a true 50 mm shooter, try to find a brand new Nikkor 50 f1.2

It will not disappoint you even on a D800E >> a life time keeper.

And here review of the old Sigma:

"The Sigma f/1.4 fails to deliver when compared to the new Nikon 50mm f/1.8G, which is even cheaper and lighter than the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G. Sharpness, CA/LoCA, flare/ghosting levels and bokeh are better on the Nikkor; distortion and AF speed is about the same. The only area that Sigma is better at is vignetting, which is easily correctable in post-processing software like Lightroom and Photoshop."

And here of the new Art:

Yes, my first link was for the Art Sigma but also talks about the Nikon 50 1,8.

My second link have same results as your link.
