I usually don't go to this park that often in the summer due to the heavy foot traffic. However, I went early this morning for a couple of hours. The light was unsteady, but the opportunities were there. Here are a few shots from that visit...

Great Blue Heron. There were several of these guys around.

A Banded Kingfisher. There were 3 of these guys flying around and fighting for the territory.

Banded Kingfisher doing what he likes most...fishing. Wish I could have caught him in the act!

There was one Osprey fishing. He caught the fish too far away for me to capture any decent shots of the catching process.

We saw probably a half dozen Snowy Egrets. Very territorial as well.

I've seen shore birds do this with a fish, but haven't seen it done with a fly! The Toss.

Sorry! That third photo is not a Banded Kingfisher, but a Little Green Heron...I think!

Hi Tom.

Glad that you made it out there today. Love these images. Great shooting. That D4s and 500 f4 serve you well. You nailed the exposure on these too. A GBH against the dark background often gets over exposed. Nice shooting of the BIFs too. I like the details of the Snowy’s wings. Interesting to see the use of one talon by the Osprey and the “fly toss” by the Kingbird.

Keep up the great work and thanks for posting.

Thanks Wayne. I was overall pretty happy with the shots and especially the opportunities we were provided here. The fly toss was probably my favorite shot of the day even though the focus was not quite on target.

Cool pics! Huntley is a great spot and the weather today was super nice. I think the egret is a Great Egret rather than a Snowy, based on the bill color and feet color?

Thank you, GList, for the kind words and the correction. I'm having trouble identifying some of these guys!

All are excellent! I like the green heron with his crown ruffled up. And the "toss" is really a great shot! It appears you had a successful morning in the meadows!

Alleys Dave, I was indeed very fortunate to have so many opportunities are excellent! I like the green heron with his crown ruffled up. And the "toss" is really a great shot! It appears you had a successful morning in the meadows!
