Just taking some pictures of my little girls playing and my off camera flash that I have only had a few weeks and has been working great to bounce light off the ceiling is now leaving this streak of light at the top of the picture. I've played with settings and have made sure nothing is partially blocking it etc. This is the flash Neewer TT560 Flash Speedlite for Canon Nikon Sony Panasonic Olympus Fujifilm Pentax Sigma Minolta Leica and Other SLR Digital SLR Film SLR Cameras. It's cheap but like I said it has been working just fine for me up until today. Help please!

That's an easy one. Your EXIF data says you took this shot at 1/1000s shutter speed. Your camera can only flash sync up to 1/160s to 1/250s depending on make and model.

If you really need to use 1/1000 shutter speed (you don't in this example) you have to turn on HSS on the flash. To fix this issue set your shutter speed equal to or lower than the cameras stated flash sync.

Hi, Looks like the shutter speed has climbed to c 1/2000 or so.

Check your Exif info.

Is that's confirmed, then set it back to your max sync speed, moderate Ap and lower iso.

You may exceed your max sync speed only if you engage HSS / FP Sync (& there's a flash range penalty to pay).

Oops: cross posted. Like Michael says!

If you are not already doing this, Rotate the flash 180 degrees horizontally, then tilt about 45 degrees vertically (so the flash is pointed above and behind you). Then when you shoot at a downward angle at the kid on the floor, the flash will illuminate the ceiling directly above your child.

The flash is not really illuminating the babies face, Something is blocking the flash.

If you look at the catch light in the kid's eyes, they don't look like flash from the ceiling, rather like light coming in from a window.

wish list: more time to take pictures

Too much shutter speed.

Bounce flash will not correct that.

Oh my gosh! Totally makes sense! Thank you! The only reason my shutter speed was up that high was I was shooting my 4 year old jumping on her bed haha! Thanks!!
