Hi:

A day late. Yesterday they couldn't get #2 Engine to start. Worked on it overnight and left about 10:20 this a.m. on its first leg, heading for Gander, Newfoundland.

Fantastic! Both the aircraft and the images! I can hardly wait to see photos of the two of them in formation. 8 Merlins singing, what a sound!

I heard hundreds of them almost every evening as they headed over the channel to Germany when I was stationed in southern England. The sound has never left me.

Quite an under taking 70 years later.

I recall Battle of Britain commemoration days in late 50's, when there were waves of fighters and bombers flying over London. Too young to appreciate it then, but I'm sure looking forward to seeing these 2 together.

These are excellent pictures--enjoyed them very much.

That is one seriously pretty airplane! Nice shots. Edit it didn't look so pretty with a damn Grand Slam sticking out of the bomb bay:-) Helluva a bomb though:-)

We've got the Battle of Britain flypast on Saturday with the old lady accompanied by a Spitfire and Hurricane - can't wait. Would love to see this old warhorse too!

Is this the one that was featured on The National on D-Day?
I assume you are talking about the CBC. Peter Mansbridge's Father flew in the Lancaster during WWII and received a DFC. There are only two flying in the world, the other in England and they will be teaming up during August and September for air shows there.

a god-damn beautiful bad-ass looking plane it is ;)

Hey George did they use the Norden BombSight on the Lancaster's ? As I know a lot of the Bombing runs were at night .

Great Shots george bet you got a Charge out of that Fly by.

Nice pictures. I did not realize they had four Merlin engines!

Really cool story!

Might be appearing in the UK at the Southport air show on Saturday, 20th September 2014.

Would be nice if it was part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight routine, two Lancaster bombers would be awesome and I'll be there!
