Today was the first chance that I had to get out with my new camera. Only had about 30min to spare, so basically just wanted to make sure the camera and lens worked. It was a crazy weather day, where the sun would peak out one minute and then it would rain and storm for 20 minutes and then more peaking of the sun, etc.

These are jpegs out of the camera. I haven't gotten around to getting a raw conversion program yet….on the to do list. So, no works of art here, but thought I post a couple simple photos just for the heck of it. I know how some people hate the "first shots" being of the house pet, so I'll reserve photos of my Golden Retriever for the second or third set of shots! ;)

Thanks Mark. Yeah, I'm glad that the camera and lens work. That was the basic goal for today's brief outing.

I'm looking forward to getting myself familiar with the camera and being able to have the time to go out and find some worthwhile images to capture!

The manual is actually pretty decent in my opinion, Nikon does ok explaining essentials.

I never used the program banks on my D700 but after some posts I read here I tried them out and they are very useful to setup various AutoISO and no Auto setups for quick changes on the fly.

Have fun above all, the DF is one of the more fun cameras I have ever owned!

Yes, the manual is pretty good, as far as manuals go. I've been bringing it up to the hospital with me at night and trying to get some reading in when my family member drifts off to sleep.

It will take some trial and probably lots of error on my part, but I will get the hang of of it all with time. It will be lots of fun, because there is no pressure on me to be great right off the bat….and I know that this will be a camera that I can grow with for years to come.

Just a suggestion, you may want to check if your body and lens combination is focusing to infinity. I was looking at the rocks in the river that does not appeared crisp. Perhaps it is slight camera movement.

Hi and thank you very much for your comment. I'll have to check on that when I get home from work today. The camera was hand held while stranding on a bridge, and I could feel vibrations as the automobiles drove over...so that may have contributed as well.

Thanks again for your helpful comment!

Ability to focus to infinity is the combined function of the camera body focusing system and the lens. Below article may be of interest to you. Note the description of Nikon and Sigma. I am not sure if it is current since your camera and lens is so new.
