Adorama Printing?

I've had good results. The software for uploading orders works fine on Mac OS X. I always adjust the images for color, contrast, etc., and tell them to print without making any corrections. The few times I've let them make corrections, the results have been inconsistent. I have a calibrated monitor, and prints made with no corrections by Adorama look pretty close to what I see onscreen, except that saturation is a bit flat. Anticipating this, I bump up contrast very slightly and add about 15 points of saturation in Photoshop before sending the files to be printed. I recently had images printed on a gray background, and the gray looks pretty neutral. All in all, a good experience. It might take a couple of tries to figure out what adjustments you need to make to get your prints looking the way you want them to. But, making the adjustments mentioned above and having Adorama print with no corrections works well for me. Make a few 4x6 test prints before sending in a big order.

Good luck.
Hi,

Has anyone used Adorama's printing service? What did you make of
the softare that they provide?

Thank you very much for the detailed response. I have the software on my computer, but I chickened out once the softare actually started running. It FEELS very intrusive to me - i.e. the way the file browswer attempts to catalog all of the images on my HD. While my HD really does not have much to hide on it, it definitely made me a bit irrationally anxious. I would prefer a set up similar to Printroom's where you basically just batch what files you want to send up.

Thank you again - I will try the service. Their prices cannot seem to be beaten.

I've used them and was happy with the results. They were processed and sent quickly. I don't care for using the software, but only because I'd rather just upload and choose the size and paper type (I do all of my corrections with PS). The price is great too.

Say what?! Ouch! It doesn't do that on Mac OS X. I just drag and drop the files I want printed into the window. You might contact Adorama about this. They were very responsive when I had trouble with their first beta version for OS X - updated the software and emailed me a link to download the new version within just a few days. Happy days since then.

There's no checkbox or anything to indicate "no corrections," so I just type "NO CORRECTIONS!!!" in the comments field at the end.

Hi,

It may not 'in real life' be intrusive at all. It just feels this way because of the file viewer attached to the program. This was my primary concern with them - it just FEELS bad to me. Adorama as a company has a great reputation - and the software appears relatively well thought out. Perhaps the fact that it does much more than I expected it to is what makes me so uncomfortable about it.

I've used them too and am happy with the prints given the great price. I don't use them for pro work, but they are great for getting my wife off my back about printing all the digital pics she takes of the baby with her P&S. I gave her the software and told her to leave me alone and print whatever she wants.

God Bless Adorama!

Reading through this thread, a couple of contributors have mentioned how important price (as well as quality) is to them. If I may be so bold, I would like to recommend my own company at http://www.bonusprint.com/us . We offer 4x6 for only 18c and a flat postage rate of $1.99. There are a few threads in the "Printers and Printing" forum from happy customers. Regards - Anthony

Thank you for not posting an animated GIF that flashes neon colors and an "Order Now!!!" message. I will check out your site.

I should point out, though, the sixth posting rule in the list that appears above the input window when you type a post:

You make a fair point, though I would like to differentiate between my specific response to a thread which refers to how cheap someone's prices are (when I know our prices are substantially lower) and posting a new thread saying "We are great - check us out!" As we make over 1 million prints a day, I do not believe replying to a particular thread will have a material effect on our growth prospects.

In general, I only respond to threads asking for online printing recommendations, and I make very clear that I work for the company I am recommending. I also endeavour to provide support for questions potential customers have, and there is one thread in the Printers and Printing forum last week where someone says he cannot believe how great we are for taking such a close interest in our customers.

Anyway, I am very pleased that you have said you will check out our site as we are great!! Anthony
