Okay. I should start by saying I already have a Lowepro Mini trekker backpack, which is great when I'm on the mountain skiing or while I'm on the go. However, it is a bit of a hassle when I'm just out shooting...to have to take the darn thing off to get the camera, change lenses, etc. I'm looking for something that is both secure (things won't fall out) and will allow me to access my camera and lenses relatively quickly. Suggestions?

Thanks
Ken

I have two LowePro bags:
Lowepro MicroTrkeer 200 (for your first reasons)
Lowepro Off Trail 2 (for your second reasons)

I like both for those differring purposes.

A neat combination of detachable daypack (small), and full-featured lumbar (no, I won't use 'fanny', for our UK friends) pack, with it's own nice shoulder strap. Easy to detach the lower pack from the upper with Fastex-type buckles, and then swing around the lower pack for shooting, without ever taking either one off. The lumbar pack fits my 10D, Sigma 15-30, 70-300, 50 1.8, flash, blower bulb, cards, batteries, and tripod attached with bottom straps. Wish it had a compartment for a hydration bladder in the top pack, and D-rings on the shoulder straps would be nice as well, but a very nice setup, and a good price, through Henrys Camera. The regular 'Orion' is less deep, and wouldn't hold the 10D with the lens attached.

Ken,

Tried several bags and just bought this one a couple weeks ago. I love it. It's narrow, but wide enough to hold the 10D with grip, but very deep. It comes with a sholder strap and back pack straps that come out of a pouch.

I was actually looking that that bag. So you recommend it eh? I was thinking either that one or the Off Road, which is supposed to be a bit bigger. I'm leaning towards the Off Trail 2 at this point.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

I keep looking at Lowepro as they seem to dominate the market and have great products. Having said that, I always wonder if I'm not getting a complete picture. What other makes are out there. I should say that I'm looking primarily at a belt pack of some sort.

first off let me recommend you search on camera bags here on dpreview, bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com and google.com....

secondly, try tamrac, domke, etc etc...

Take a look at the Domke bags. They are great bags - they uses a cloth canvas (that is lined on the inside), and they are shaped to look less like a camera bag.
