Nikon D810

Only if it ends up like D600, other wise no one cares. :)

:D Right question should be; Would you buy a car made in Geely factor,y or a car made in BMW factory? :D
Right answer - I will not buy car made in China regardless of brand :-)

People in any country have the capability to make anything equally well or as poorly as the worst out there.

Training and money can overcome workforce and cultural aspects, but often takes years and lots of money to do this.

There is a reason companies like samsung make their high end phones in one country and their consumer ones in others. There was a reaso. The pro bodies and expensive lenses where made in japan.

Thailand and China I am sure can do as well but if nikon dose t invest I the people and training I would expect a dramatic falloff I qc. Call it a Monday or Friday built camera. Time will tell if nook fixed their quality issues and if it is design issue or manufacture issue.

All I know being an early adopter always has risk and never has that risk been higher with nikon's horrible track record and if you look at recent strategy I would say design and features are equally terrible as is manufacturing at this once proud company
PS Do you drive Great Wall? If you so convinced that Chinese cars as good as German one I suggest you to buy it instead of BMW or Mercedes make a photo and post it here to prove that you really think what you say.
Nobody would want to buy a car made in China over car made in Germany but would you buy BMW if BMW move their factory to china and train the works..

For me the answer is yes but I wont by fake BMW made in China just to save money.
Then it won be a BMW any more isn't it. It will be a CMW. :D No longer Bavarian.

Alot of ppl buy german cars because they're made in germany. Look at ford brand. Some of the older ford cars (sierra, escort, taunus and what else) that are made in germany are different quality than those made in US. Sure, Mustang is good, but look at the other Ford models, imo the german made are generally better.

So absolutely no, I think many would refrain from buying a BMW made in China. Big NO. Heck, some ppl are complaining about some car manufacturers producing their cars in Spain instead of where they would normally be produced.

I think this discussion helped me to make the right decision. I went and bought a Nikon D800E, before it gets out of stock. I'm very satisfied with its built quality, and it re assured me with its bottom label. [Made in Japan] Thank you very much everyone. (y)

Since you are from Sri Lankan I can understand why made in Japan is a big deal for you.

Yes, I believe in reliable, cameras good for use in these rouged, tropical environment.

What do you think of the Ford Transit made in the Republic of Turkey?

Does any one know where Nikon D810 is made? Japan or Thailand?
Thailand.

The Thai have better peripheral vision than the Japanese and thus better able to calibrate the outer right and left focus points.

(Of course this is just humour as I have no idea why it would matter where the D800 was made).

The dust problem you experienced may have been from the accommodation you live in?

I doubt it matters where the camera is made, it won't survive being in a collapsed building ;-)

Thank you.

I just want to inform all the camera experts here that BMW is indeed manufacturing cars in China by a joint venture with Brilliance Auto in Shenyang. The same is for Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen!

Nothing new. Almost all car makers make cars in China for China market. I just would not buy one made in China. Period.

Not the country. The factory. Different factory, different build quality. Different set of employees, have different set of skills and talent.
The story goes was that the D800 was scheduled to be made in Thailand. This was said consistently before it was released, that it was to be made on the old D300 line, due to the quantity Nikon expected to sell. After the Thai floods they moved production to Japan, while they rebuilt the Thai factories (having just rebuilt the Japanese factories after the tsunami). To do this the moved the entire production line and the Thai workforce that had been trained up to make D800's. It would make sense, once the production of D800's had finished, to take the chance to move the line back where it was intended. It could even be that D800 production finished some time ago, and the Df has been being made on the Sendai line where the D800 was made.

Much as I like the idea of "Made In Japan," I still must remember my youth, in the 1960's, when "Made In Japan" was synonymous with "bad quality."

In reality, stuff made in Japan then was of decent quality, but the popular perception was that it was low quality as compared to "Made In the U.S.A."

I still like to buy USA-made goods for a lot of reasons, but it's impossible to not buy from Japan, Thailand and China now. Many Chinese consumer goods do seem inferior and badly made and, after reading countless articles on shoddy materials, toxic paints and corruption, I'm still wary. I'd rather buy a US made tool than a Chinese one.

BUT, that being said, many fine electronic products come out of China and Thailand now. It comes down to who is running the factory, and that's true of any country.

:D That's why you should only talk about cameras, in photography forums.

Saw this clip on YouTube. Thought I was right.

The article's author seem to think that making the camera in Thailand had something to do with the dXo sensor performance marks. Since the sensor was made by Sony, we can't assume that assembling the camera in Thailand is responsible for the lower performance.

This also might be some of the compromises that had to be made when extending the sensitivity range down to ISO64. Another possibility is that it could be a lot sample thing. We won't know the full story until we look at the results from other sites that use the dXo method to test sensors.

D800 was never a great high ISO performer. That's why I purchased a Df for low light use. My D810 seems not to suffer from the left focus issue that plagued the D800/E. I also notice that the D810 doesn't suffer from excessive heat generated by the sensor like the D800/E did when using live view a lot. I've been using the group AF function and it's working great.

I've been working with a LensAlign and it seems that the D810 does a better job of getting the correct focus than my D800.

So far, I'm pleased and the camera has met my expectation. I wish it had focus peaking like some of the web sites claimed. I'm wondering if Nikon has another name for focus peaking.
