Hey all,

I am not even a newbie, as I have no knowledge whatsoever in photography

or the required equipment, hence I would require your assistance.

I wish to purchase a gift for a relative, who uses Canon 650D and is seeking

a lens that would provide extremely powerful zoom capabilities.

I suppose it should be wide lens, preferably one that can be used to capture

really sharp close-up photos from huge distances, specifically for taking wildlife

close-up photos.

So with that in mind, could the pros around here please recommend a few options

for a $500-1500 budget (US) ?

Thanks in advance.

That's a difficult question. It very much depends on what he already has got. If he hasn't got any telephoto lenses yet, something like the Tamron AF 3,5-6,3/16-300 Di II VC PZD might be a good choice. It covers a wide range and could be an "always on" lens.

But if he is already quite experienced and wants to make a big step forward, you have to go to the higher end of the budget. The Sigma AF 4,5-5,6/120-400 DG OS APO HSM or Sigma 4,5-6,3/50-500 APO DG OS HSM might be worth a look.
