Can the GX7 take stills while recording video?

I've looked all over and can't find the answer to this question. Can the GX7 take stills while recording video? The manual does say something about no stills during Creative Movie Mode, but I'm not clear on what Creative Movie Mode is.

I've almost decided on the GX7 over the Olympus E-M10, but this is one point that tips the scale back in the direction of the E-M10 if the GX7 can't do it.

Thanks!

Solution
I don't normally shoot any video but I just tried it in a test. Seems to work fine, just use the shutter button for stills while recording.

Edit: I didn't use creative mode, I just hit the video button in A mode.

No it doesn't, just tried it in A and S modes.

Creative mode is the dedicated mode dial position for video where exposure adjustments are possible, much like the same mode on the LX7 and FZ200.

Thanks for the replies. Sergeg, was that with the LX7 or do you also have a GX7? I've asked in the M43 forum, too.

EDIT: I see that you have a GX7, as well. Hmm, this is a sad omission on Panasonic's part for my use as sometimes something is happening where I want both video and stills. E.g., recording everyone singing "happy birthday" but getting a picture of the cake being carried at the same time.

Awesome, thanks. I'll use this as more of an emergency, "Oh no, I really need a snapshot of that but I'm already recording video," kind of thing. So I'm not worried too much about limitations, except that I saw on the other thread I started that it causes an interruption in the video. That's not cool.

You just hit the record button in any mode and it will record video yes, the question asked was

can you take a still while recording video! The answer is no, not in any mode.

Perhaps you can explain why mine managed to do so? I was in A mode, pushed the video button, watched the video seconds count by and pressed the shutter 4 times and got 4 stills. There was a slight hitch in the video playback corresponding to each still but the both the video and the stills exist.

I wouldn't even attempt to because I have no idea what you did. You must be a magician, I'm not and I can't do it.

On the other hand, you might be using a different firmware version which lets you do it, I'm running 1.02.

Good luck.

Nothing up my sleeve but... no, can't claim to be a magician. You may be on to something though, I haven't burned any new firmware. I'm still on 1.1. I doubt that's it though. I just looked at the manual and page 233 details the still abilities during video and page 234 lists some settings that would preclude it. Perhaps one of those settings is where we differ.

As others said, yes it can except when in Creative Mode.

In this mode the shutter button acts as the start/stop recording button so you can control the action with a remote control.

But in this case the shutter button is not available for stills.

Per the manual, why not create the still you need after the fact in playback mode?
