Well I think (given in 7 hrs no one has commented), the issue is not the shot but the subject. He is not a pretty or handsome vulture!! People portraits would get you more response. IMHO it is well done and sharp.

Nice shot of a bird that's perhaps not the best looking.

But hey, maybe another vulture loves this one dearly.

I like this. The beauty of it is the ugliness captured in such detail. Not a lot different than some people portraits captured on the street. Anyway, I bet the vulture doesn't think he is ugly. I am partial to black backgrounds and like this.

fabulous but if I had my druthers I would have liked it a whisker brighter so there is some sparkle in the highlights but hey its not my image and I am sure you have tried it.

Exceedingly well done animal portrait. I agree with John that it could be improved with a few local adjustments. However it is very nice as presented.

I like vultures. They get a bad rap. This portrait is a bit severe, though. I assume it came out a bit darker than the bird actually looked and on a black background, only showing the bald head... So this shows the cold aspect of vulturedom very well. It doesn't show the majestic and graceful aspects of these often huge birds. If that's what you were going for: job well done.
