Does anyone think the RX10 will topple the King?

Long Live The King.

No way, Ric (imho)

Or rather they are 2 different beasts;completely different tech and ethos and raison d'etre generally.

They are so different that most people who buy one of them could easily want the other one to compliment the other. Now, there's a thought...

Craaaaaaaaaaaap

Yes a good thought that will cost me $$$$ lol :-)

David I have to agree with you that they are different as you said.

However, my thought is that they were both born out of necessity and to fill a gap that didn't exist or to simply create a whole new genre of camera, this is where I think they are similar if not the same but truly unique.

Definitely. And Kudos to Sony for being willing to innovate and fill those niches. Unfortunately the innovation does not always garner such acclaim (QX models I am thinking of).

I really do hope Sony optical division can ride out the corporate storm long term. They really deserve to win through.

David,

I see what you are saying about the QX cameras (can you call them that??) But I have seen some great things on this site from a keen QX shooter, and they were awesome, getting into some fun places and showing us a new way if getting some great shots. I wouldn't buy one, but as you said Sony again put something out there to test the water that no one else has done.

I've said it before, Canon and Nikon just keep wrapping old tech in new clothes. It won't be long I think till one of them puts out their hand to Sony for some assistance.

Its a shame that weather a camera makes it in the world or not is just based on sales, as we have seen some gems come and go that we're discontinued simply due to sales numbers. I understand that I work for an OEM manufacture myself, but Sony keeps trying and as you said, they deserve to make it.

Don't get me wrong, I think the QX's are great little devices, just not good enough IMHO for people to make the effort to use them over cam phones. If you're going to bother with such a device, then it has to be MUCH better than the cam phone, offer RAW output. The QX100 was the bare minimum design, but too expensive and no RAW output. And the wrong interface; needed a much more advanced system than the Play memories app. On phone RAW support and LR style editing would have transformed a non seller into a genuine niche product for gadgety photo enthusiasts.

Ive said it in a previous thread but i would love to see a modular design, clip on lenses, backs (to allow Android/IOS interface or more conventional, with downloadable OS's depending on your combo) and sensors, all the way up to FF. Would be a monster project, clip on flashes, and EVF's , OVF's etc. I guess Im expecting too much, and integrating multiple mounts for different lens sizes and sensors is probably impossible. I can dream...

LOL

Yeah, poisoning indeed. I have 2 RX100's already, I can survive a 3rd?

And the same battery ideal is great for sure! My rx1 countdown continues.

I've always seen the RX100 as a compliment to the RX1.
