None of the several small/tabletop tripods I had previously used could hold the M + 55-250mm steady. They all offered mushy positioning and they all slipped after positioning the camera. Come on, this camera is not that heavy! Enter the champ:

Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod - Holds the M + 55-250 beautifully. Quick, precise positioning, no slippage whatsoever. Push the button, point the camera where you want it, release the button, and it is done. NO SLIPPAGE!!

Considering it is Manfrotto, it must be expensive - not so - ~$25 on Amazon, not much more than all the others that don't work. I also saw it in a store, same price. Folded it forms a grip.

Actually this lens is not the best example, I now realize, because it is IS and doesn't really need a tripod most of the time. But with a non-IS lens (e.g. EF-S 60mm macro) it would make lots of sense. I tested it with this lens simply because it is the largest I have.

Looks neat. I've ordered one. It'd better be good or I'll be after you!

Someone on Amazon said it worked with their 5D + grip + 28-300 so am confident it will be worth having! Thanks for idea, the button to set the angles looks very neat and easy.

Thanks,

A couple things to note...

you can actually adjust how stiff, or rather how much friction there is when positioning the ballhead by removing the bottom plate that holds the legs, and then tightening or loosening the torx screws inside.

With the custom wrist strap I made using both lug attachments, I can actually use the PIXI as a counter balance by adjusting it accordingly to distribute the weight while holding the strap above center. It actually provides a tad bit more stabilization when moving around when recording video...especially if you're trying to capture some low to the ground movement.

Hello, tripod arrived this morning, seems a nice solid piece of kit for the money (£20 delivered). Used it with my 5D III and smaller lenses and works a treat. When I first tried it I thought the ball was stiff then tried it with the camera and its fine, I came to same conclusion that it has to be a tight fit to work. Very please overall and useful addition to kit. Thanks!
