I just received my 1650PZ and made some comparison shots with the 1855. JPGs straight from camera. Zooming feels weird, the zoom lags behind when turning the wheel. Focal length is shown in display/viewfinder. Focus speed is equal, OIS works as good as in the 1855. I am not impressed, the 1855 was free and the 1650PZ is 350€. Image quality wise i dont see much difference to my 1855. Only advantage is see that its 2mm wider, but thats not worth 350€ to me. I'd rather spend that 350€ on the 12-24. I will return it.

0176 to 0179 are with the 1650PZ

Thanks for your feedback and yes, the PZ is as good as a kit lens as the 1855 ;-)

well, the 1650PZ was free as well if you would have bought it e.g. at fotokoch bundled with the NX30 (Kit 1650 799,- versus 1855 at 740€) so the add on cost in your case is not getting you any benefit if you already have the 1855

as the zoom is purely by wire you will not get the mechanical feedback as on traditional zooms...

Personally the main benefit of the 1650 is its size and the fact that it despite the very compact size does not compromise on IQ in corners as it happens with the Sony 1650PZ

And what about 20-50 comparison, especially IQ wise ?

I'd like to get something wider than the 20-50 I own, with OIS and silent focusing. Maybe the new 16-50PZ is that one, maybe it's just another kit lens.

in agreement with finding. although I also agree with tjobbe that 2mm at wide is significant especially at far sceneries. 2mm difference in wideness at far end doubles effectiveness of 18mm but will not show much at close shot. also more flexibility for better cropped area distortion. but main benefit is of size and pz for video. as mentioned and as seen, picture quality difference is insignificant.

basing on pictures I saw, picture quality is not far from kitlens and as expected already. not because kitlens is bad but because kitlens is already good. but if want something really significantly better, you need to get NX s16-50 zoom instead.

The S16-50 looks like an impressive beast, but it's damn too big ! I could afford buying it, but I couldn't bear carrying it while hiking, I could go back to DSLR with such a brick.

When it was dirt cheap, I bought a 85mm I quite never use, because it's too heavy and hard to handle with my NX300.

I was really impressed by my 20-50 I, but it's too slow and noisy when filming. And If I could get rid of my 16mm pancake, it would be nice too !

I haven't checked the 18-55, it was too big and I could sell it to a good price as it was new.

-The same i have discover and me, i have try many lens from samsung (i have a friend with shop ho sale samsung cameras) and all is optically the same with the 20-50 pancake zoom that came with my nx2000...

-Well thats not bud!! And this happen no because those lens is bad BUT BECAUSE THE 20-50 IS JUST EXTRAORDINARY... and so i stay with that little cute which is small and light.

size and weight is expected from premium lens. it is compromise for getting best quality zoom. I will not buy S lens for NX300 or small camera but I will buy it for NX1 use. it is burden because it need to be. beside, carrying tripod is no joke also.

If it's as good image quality as the 18-55 while being half the size and having better AF, I think that's an ok deal. Nothing to get excited about but a reasonable improvement for anyone buying a new body+kit lens bundle. If the rumoured deal with the NX3000 at $400-450 shows up, that's a more convincing proposition for a backup/spare body.

Personally, I think I'd rather spend the cash on the Samyang 12mm, or realistically whichever one of the 12, 16-50PZ and 12-24 has the best sale price in the next year or so...
