Some might know me from the Pentax SLR talk forum for my Frog photos. So this morning on my way to work i only brought with me my X-E1 and 18-55mm. My goal was to photograph a Frog with the "kit lens". The minimum focusing distance is too long for close-up of Frogs, my FOTGA extension tubes that i ordered don't work very well (not recommended, they are too thight and may get stuck on the camera or lens).

So until i can find safe Ext. tubes to use i will have to do with the bare kit lens. I was handholding it at water level at harmslength, so OIS was useful. The IQ is very goodt 55mm at f/8, i tried f/11 but too much DOF.

Hope you like it, no cropping BTW.

Very nice!

I have never seen your frog photos, and i personally don't like frogs too much, since i was a kid :-)

Were you in the water waiting for the frog or on a boat??

Cool shot!

Yu might want to consider a Raynox 250 closeup lens. it will snap onto most lenses and will allow auto focus. There have been several posts with people using this with the fuji system, including the 18-55. Very affordable and versatile, with great reviews at BH Photo. I have considered one myself to have in my bag but generally prefer to bring my Tamron 90m adaptall manual macro lens with me when i know I am going to shoot close up stuff like, mostly flowers and the occasional bugs.

I was laying on the shore on my stomach and just got close enough to take the shot.

Thank you.

Wow! You do a good job. Where do you live? Are there any crocks in those waters? Isn't it kind of dangerous if one of those animals just pops right in front of your face?

Very nice picture, congrats!

Out of curiosity, why didn't you like your Nikon close-up filters? I was thinking of getting the 6T and using it with a reversing ring, as I've read that they perform better when used that way, though I'm not sure why?

Thanks for posting.
