This is the same boat shot as number three but in color.

I like all three in this shot with a slight preference for the Kodak but the Fuji produced nice saturated color with the Limix a little less colorful.

To be honest I like all three brands that is why I kept them, they are all vintage cameras by todays standards but IMO they more than hold their own.

My next camera will be either a 35mm SLR of another Fuji Finepix.

Lumix

To my eyes the Fuji tends to slightly under-expose and add a bit more contrast. I like that.

Well even if I am not a Kodak user anymore, I could tell some notes... and my greetings to the Panel too... :)

So the Panasonic Lumix of your test maybe is one of the worst ever panasonic cameras... I had one and made me hate for years this brand... (still can't love it though).

The Fuji of your test is one of their best Super CCD cameras, the sensor generation that made me love to death fuji and I still own a super CCD sensored s100f... the fuji of your test is the same generation as their S9000 28-300mm cameras and its fair to compare it only with a P880...

Greetings to all mike.

Good to see you, Mike. Hope all is well with you and your family.

nice test (again by the way) Dave...

you do a great job of comparing apples to apples so to speak. Your framing of the shots and time that the photos were taken look like they were very very close to being more or less exactly the same.

but

What's going on with the Pani? It's photo is much brighter than either Mr. Fuji's camera or Kodak's. And the Pani was shot with only 80 ISO not a 100 ISO like the other guys and the shutter speed was quicker... so how come the photo is brighter?!?!? Me no get it. :-x

BTW I've now got two 35mm cameras. So I'm half ready to play with film photography. I went to the local drug store, just to see what was available in the way of film. They had Fuji something and Kodak something, I forget the actual film types. But what I remember was the BEST BEFORE DATE: had expired on all the boxes.....so I backed away from buying film that day. And then looking on the web about film types I'm like... wow.... I don't know nothing about this stuff.

What would you recommend for a film type for someone to have play with 35mm film photography?

Nothing one mouse click on the Generic Kodachrome 64 in DPReview's gift of the Dx0 FilmPack won't fix! Possibilities are as endless as the individual's perception of colour.

I'm pretty confident Dave won't mind me using his Panasonic pic for educational purposes.....some pics are worthy !

Hi Charlie, I had a look at what was available in 35mm film last week, I would say any of the Fuji films will do a great job.

When I used to do the weddings I always used Kodacolor 200 but carried a roll or two of Fuji or Konica film in my bag, sadly Konica film is no longer available it was every bit as good as Kodak.

Mmmm thats not an easy question Charlie, scanning has come so far these days its a tough call. I scanned prints and slides on Canons top model printer and couldn't tell the difference between the two.

If anything I noticed while scanning slides the came out saturated to death so I had to reduce the saturation considerably, I suggest you try both and make a choice that way.

Its been years since I scanned my slides etc, I have a feeling a lab could do a better job.
