Hi,

Help needed setting up my D300s to take a multiple exposure (3-5) shots taken at (probably) 15 minute intervals of the moon rise.

Tried following the instructions in the Nikon User Guide but camera only takes 1 photo.

Interval photography works fine i.e. camera takes number of photos at time interval as set but just can't get it to take more than one shot with multiple exposure turned on?

(It pays to read ALL the instructions....)

Both the D300s and D600 Multiple Exposure function at default setting is limited to a maximum of 30" regardless of the interval selected in Interval Timer. To extend the time between exposures, Custom Setting c4 'Image Review' time has to be adjusted. The maximum time setting for Image Review is 10 minutes which allows Multiple Exposures at a maximum of 10'30" - probably not long enough to take a suitable multi photo of the moon rising.

Cheers,
Bob
I don't think that you can mix multiple exposure and interval shooting together. A simple way of bypassing this would be to use interval shooting to take individual images then merge these into a single image in Photoshop (or similar).

Thanks for your quick reply sillyconguru but here's an excerpt from the User Guide that seems to imply you can combine the two functions (and I don't use Photoshop):

Describing the Multiple Exposure function (page 187) "If interval timer photography is activated before the first exposure is taken (I'm assuming it means with Multiple Exposure ON), the camera will record exposures at the selected interval until the number of exposures specified in the multiple exposure menu have been taken (the number of shots listed in the interval timing shooting menu is ignored). These exposures will then be recorded as a single photograph ....."

I interpret this as saying that if I have 5 photos selected in Multiple Exposure menu and 10 photos selected in the Interval Timer menu, only 5 exposures will be taken rather than 10 at the interval selected in the Interval Timer menu and then produced as a single multiple exposure photo?

I'm in the process of trying the same setup with my D600 & I'll let to you know if I get the same result.

Cheers,
Bob

.... and yes, Multiple Exposure with Interval Timer setup does function perfectly as advertised on the D600 (shame the D600 is limited to 3 shot multiple exposure)

Will try a full camera reset and try again with the D300s.
