On my GH2 when using manual focus legacy lenses I could push in the thumb wheel to activate manual focus assist (enlargement). I've been trying to find out how it works with the GH3. Quite by accident I found that I can swipe the screen to enlarge the focus area, but can't see how to do it without the LCD being opened.

Is there a way to activate it with the controls? Can't find it in the manual........ but maybe I haven't looked hard enough yet!

Thx!

But now I've found it! You need to press the menu/set button to magnify. Doh!! :)
That's not necessary on my camera - pressing the FN3 button immediately brings up magnified focus view when the camera is set to MF mode or when a manual lens is mounted.

What do you have your "MF Assist" menu option set to (page 3 of the custom menu, the one with the wrench and "C" icon)? Mine is set to the top option, the one with the icon of the lens and AF mode.
If you haven't changed the default button assignments then you can bring up the magnified focus assist view either when in MF mode or when a manual lens is mounted by pressing the FN3 (focus mode) button - it's located just to the upper left of the menu button/control dial.

This makes a lot of sense, because when you're in manual focus mode or have a manual lens mounted there's no need for a "focus mode" button.

Thanks Sean

Was going to say that I am using that and it's not working! Brings up the yellow focus box but the dials and 4-way controller only move the box around and make it smaller and larger - but doesn't magnify.

But now I've found it! You need to press the menu/set button to magnify. Doh!! :)

Awesome! Thanks so much for your help! :) Got it working now.

I guess I am guilty of assuming it will work much the same as the GH2. Of course they have to change things at least a little bit - to keep us on our toes and appreciating all the improvements they make! ;)

(Of course I am so used to how I set my GH2 for the last 2 years....)
