I bit on the great X-A1 deal last week ($450US) to test the Fuji waters. I wish I could've just bought the body, but they only sell it as a kit. The 16-50 seems fine, but I think I'll sell it because I don't need it which will bring this cam in at even a better deal.

Anyway, I shot it this weekend with a variety of borrowed and rented lenses and I think this baby holds up extremely well, despite it' seemingly lack of interest in these forums. I am usually a raw shooter, but I shot these as jpeg and just added a touch of clarity and a light vignette to a couple.

Well, I just wanted to share a few...comments and critiques are welcome.

Yes, nice pictures, and an excellent bargain after you sell your lens. The bird picture was my least favorite. The others have that "Fuji" color.

I sure don't see anything wrong with these pictures.

You're right about not seeing many posts about the X-A1 (or the X-M1) and that does seem unusual.

It seems like the X-A1 would be a good selling camera because the price is low and image quality is very, very good.

These were shot with the 16-50, 35, 14, and 55-200. You should be able to tell from the exif data which lenses were used for which photos.

With some things such as foliage and when processed with Lightroom (at least), the X-A1 gives better results.

Here is an example of the issue, same scene X-A1 on left, X-T1 on right - the X-T1 output looks unnatural to me.

Other raw processors can largely deal with the issue but that (for me) complicates processing and I would just rather use the X-A1 in those cases. It's a nice small backup.

This is old news you can see it in the comparisons page with other cameras the xtran sensor gives an artificial look. Regardless, it's very popular and lots of photographer like it just not the working ones : )

The A1 shutter speed is longer, maybe because of the AA filter. Regardless I agree I like the A ! image better but it may be due to it had a little longer to capture the light.

here we go again...what a test and what a conclusion!! god save the photographic world

Like Robbie, I bought the X-A1 mostly because of the price. I think you don't see many posts for the X-A1 or X-M1 because they are targeted more towards the consumer market.

Hello?

There are forums here dedicated to Panasonic Compacts, Fuji FinePix, Nikon Coolpix (or whatever they're called), Sony Cybershot, etc, etc.

What makes you think the "consumer market" doesn't represent a sizable segment of the DPR audience?

I often wonder why there aren't more posts here re the X-A1 and X-M1 and the only logical conclusion I can draw is that the puppies just didn't sell very well.

That said, I'm considering picking up an X-A1 and kit lens at current prices.

It's not a test - just an demonstration of the issue which the OP may not have been aware of and why the X-A1 may be for some, like myself, a good addition to the Fuji kit.

Excellent series of abandoned places on your Flickr - both he subject itself and processing.

Thank you for sharing.
