I would appreciate if some of you who are using both (now or in the past) could compare AF speed between the two.

Thanks

A direct comparison would be impossible as you would not be able to compare same lens with both.

Agreed, so I will go out on a limb here and say the A6000 with native will be much better :) I have the A7 with the LAEA4 and a few telephoto A mounts. The LAEA4 is good, and works for most things in good light. The A6000 looks to be better in all shooting scenarios, but I will leave that to others.

For instance, my A7 with native FE is much better than my A7 with LAEA4. So I am guessing because the A6000 AF system is better than the A7, it would be better than the A7 with LAEA4.

ok, thank you for the replies. Obviously I did not mean to use same lens.

I was using 5n + EA2 + Minolta AF135 / 200 f2.8.

A7 with say 55 f1.8 is slower (I have this combo).

now I trying to figure out if A6000 with 70-200 F4 would be better than A6000 + Minoltas using the adapter... Scenario I am talking about is sports under the lights..

I have Minolta 200/2.8 G APO (the HS version). It works fine for most action/sports situations (My fast little Chihuweenie, who is not only small but also mostly black, has helped me test it well running straight towards me). Not on a6000 though but EA2 performance should be comparable to NEX-3/6 if not a bit better due to speedier processor.

Between that set up and 70-200/4 though, I would expect the 70-200G setup to have an edge and would indeed make for an interesting comparison, both having very shallow DOF.

  • it is still not clear at all HOW accurate the AF on a6k is going to be in t action shooting scenarios - esp. concerning whether a critical focus accuracy at full res. will be attained/preserved during tracking fast action at high FPS rates?
  • and if indeed this will be the case, how much better such OSPDAF performance will be in comparison to the EA2/EA4 (which are after all offering entry level performance of the A56 type in SLT bodies);
  • only after a solid proof that the OSPDAF in a6k is indeed better (perhaps to an extent of "much better") than what is available through the classic-PDAF adapters like EA2, there will rise an increasing clamor to get an access to the OSPDAF also from the A-mount lens lineup;
  • meaning yet another LA-EAx - a newly designed one, as EA1/EA3 are giving access only to the CDAF functionality, and it is doubtful whether this might be changed, to allow also OSPDAF sensels to drive A-mount lenses, just by a FW upgrade;
  • with the benefit of OSPDAF sensels being spread across most of the frame; while the EA-2/EA-4 are huddled all together in a center;
  • which btw. still will not endow the A-lenses with an OSS;
