Can the A7 charge while still in operation?

For example, I'd like to use the A7 to take overnight time lapses, but the included battery kinda sucks. I can always get the battery grip, but for longer time lapses I wonder if even the battery grip can provide enough juice.

I've been able to charge the A7 with an external battery (like an Anker), but not while it's turned on. Is there no way to charge via micro-USB while the camera's turned on? Will it at least trickle-charge?

My understanding is that it is either or. The only way to power and use long term is with the $120 a.c. adapter that fits in place of the battery. Or get the vert grip and hope 2x batteries is enough

Maybe, you could cut the DC-cord on the DC adapter and feed in DC (right voltage...) from whatever battery...

Or maybe you could use a cheaper adapter (not sure if the link below is the whole adapter or just the "DC end of it) like this:

well amazon, ummm dpreview banned the link - specifically the name of the vendor in the link, so replace the asterix below with a "d" (I have no idea about this vendor - they just were the first to pop up with a low cost version adapter...)

with a battery to the same effect.

But possibly only if the original adapter isn't chipped in some way to not be rejected by the camera as a non-OEM battery.

The cheap adapter kind may be cheap enough to try .... if it does not damage the camera that is of course...

or this:

OK, this is UK - but there is aftermarket stuff around.

Google (searching for images) ACPW20..

This maybe: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=ac+pw20
