Sorry, I didn't want to start another V3 thread. I just thought someone will may a poll about this eventually but nobody did so far.

I'm curious how many people would like the body only V3 without the EVF, lens and grip. To me, it doesn't make any sense, as if you want a N1 without an EVF, you may just as well get a J1 but that's just me. But I'd like to know why this seems so interesting - do you not need EVF, or is the tiltable display a good enough replacement?

And what about the other kits which people asked about?

Let's assume the prices would be realistic, i.e. body only would cost say 75% of the full kit, other lenses would not be free etc. Doesn't matter if you'd buy at current prices or wait for them to fall.

Kit as is for $900 MSRP and body only for $500-$600 USD I guess.

So much so that I would say only the vanilla body+( new kit Zoom ) or the simple Body kit ( body+grip+EVF ) made some sense but I will settle for other combo which really is what the V3 needs. To say the least the V3 can only muster its best if its mated to native lens but of course those native lens are far and few in between somewhat .. If I am willing to forgo the convenience of zoom and go for fix focal I would certainly look for speed and optical performance but then the 10mm and the 18.5 are well not so well endeared. The 32mm is fasr for sure but am not so sure about its actual optical quality.

And for that why should the focal length range keep repeating what the FF DSLR had .. shouldn't we had something more adapt to this specific CX sensor size.

Olympus looks better and better. I have some older Olympus optical equipment (2 microscopes) and it's superb, as have been other Oly cameras. I like the N1s for what they are, which is great point and shoots with high speed capabilities, but they're overpriced and getting less, rather than more, capable. My little refurb J1 in its underwater housing is a good underwater camera at a good price, and the V1 is a good walk around at what I paid for it (less than $300 new), but never worth the asking price.

Nikon is getting to be like BMW; grossly overpriced, totally unresponsive to owners and users, yet highly regarded. One good thing, I can always recoup most of my cost.

Sometimes, Nikon really chaps my ass.. is it too much to ask for the V3, EVF, grip and lens as separate items available in any choice of combination!?

You obviously have not read the many threads on this forum, and the reviews, which praise the 18.5/1.8 and 32/1.2. They are definitely well endeared!

Most of the zooms are reported as being pretty good as well, particularly the 30-110 and 6.7- 13 (although I do not have first hand experience of the latter)

The reason for having the specific lenses available for the N1 is that they are the most popular FLs (although some may disagree) and it makes sense to have small lenses which do not destroy the concept of a compact system.

Could there be more, of course, but Nikon seem to have chosen to provide the logical ones first

Full kit :-O

I voted for the kit + EVF + Grip. I'll also be buying the 70-300 so a kit with that would be nice, but I'm getting the lens with or without a kit.

As a V1 user for quite a while now, I'm excited about the V3 with the exception of the micro SD card format. (I'd rather just an SD card) Everything else looks good to me. But this is my fun camera - the one I take out for snapshots and take on vacation instead of the bigger gear.

I'm hoping the EVF fixes the EVF lock up problem the V1 has which drives me nuts because it always happens at the worst times and always when I don't have anything with me to clean the EVF sensor properly.

I passed on the V2 and have been waiting on the V3...so I'm excited about getting one.

V3 + EVF + 70-300mm

The V3 + EVF + Grip. Just my hunch that the grip will really transform this camera's handling. The EVF seems like an absolute must to me.

I voted full kit, because that's what I intend to get. However, for other buyers a 18.5mm kit would be great (I happen to receive the 18.5 for Xmas so no longer make sense for me).

I could have voted 70-300 kit also since I intend to get that lens too. I have been waiting and saving since the patent for the 70-300 came out some time ago. Can't wait! (I am a current user of the FT-1/70-300 so I know what I'm getting into and also what I hope to see an improvement in).

I originally planned to work the lens for a month or two on my V1 first. But TBH am getting a serious case of NAS for the V3 as well, and if they happen to have it in stock the day my lens comes in anything could happen ;-)

I am not hugely keen on the 10-30 as I expect my 18.5mm to do duty as my normal lens from now on, BUT I can at least experiment with power zoom for video and the compactness is a DEFINITE benefit. Also I can loan out the PW Zoom to my daughters when they go on vacations, as that lens will be better from a compactness point of view on their J3 and J1 that they already have.

I'm also not dying for the grip, but hey I'll take it in kit form, as I can always use another function button and it will be good for the bird/wildlife duty. Anyone know if the grip has a portrait shutter button?

Not sure how quick all this is going to come out here in Canada but I have a 5-day shooting trip scheduled for early May and here's hoping (but I doubt it).

Edit BTW here in Canada I can get the body-only but I'm going for the kit. This is primarily due to fact that the EVF is a mist-have in which case the lens plus grip is coming close enough to free for my purposes.

V3 + EVF + 70-300.
Yep, that should be the "birder's kit".

Assuming we get better AF performance and sharpness than the FT-1/FX 70-300 combo, the above kit should really take off in birders circles. There are lots of ladies and elderly that want the reach, would appreciate quality and speed of the 1-system, and they've got the money. This could be a much needed boost to the 1-system. The potential was always there given the 2.7 crop-factor, and hopefully we now have the lens that brings it all home ;-)
