hx400v

I didn't had much time today to test the cam, but one thing I am missing on the HX400 is the HR-Panorama (10.480 x 4.096).

First "bad thing" I found on the camera. :-(

---

Just a quick info:

I managed to remote control the HX400 with my windows 8 phone Nokia Lumia 925 with a free app called "scrap".

Features: live view, zoom in/out, take picture, self timer 2 sec, "endless" interval shooting from 5-30 sec. automatic image recieving to the smartphone (2mp).

I hope the weather will get better for the weekend.

The information on DPR lists this camera as an "HX400V", implying that it has GPS. The Sony website also calls it the "HX400V". But GPS isn't mentioned in any place in the specifications or descriptions. The last model in this series, the HX300, did not have GPS. So, is there any clarifying information on this?

The European User's Guide shows the model as "HX400/HX400V" and it describes GPS for the HX400V. But which model will be sold in different regions? The HX400 is the one currently sold at B&H and Amazon. Does the one sold directly by Sony as the HX400V, have GPS?

The HX 400/B or the HX400v are same and have GPS, the H400 63X has no GPS. If you look at Amazon they list The HX400/B with GPS. So far what I have read, the Hx400 is faster and better IQ, plus a lot better featured.

My model is the HX400V and ist has GPS (and wifi).

As promised, here are the first pictures from the last weekend.

I made 2 settings in the HX400 regarding picture quality in P Mode.

First: Saturation +1

Second: Sharpness +1

Big difference between HX300 and HX400 is, that you can now choose -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3 for every setting. (HX300 was -1, 0, +1)

The +1 for the sharpness brings back some of the jpeg artifacts but I like the extra sharpness it gives. Not a good setting for pixel peeper btw. ;-)

There is still a long way to go with testing but I can say, that I'm impressed by the speed of this camera.

Compared to the HX300, the HX400 is "fast as lightning!"

Very good! Looking forward to see more pic from it!!

Thanks!

Thank you for posting, more speed is great, can you elaborate on the speed .Nice shots.

SUPER...pictures I love it

CAN YOU TELL ME IF you CAN ADD MANY TIME WATER COLOR ON YOUR PICTURE or after that you have take the picture AS with OTHER SONY cam BUT NOT ON RX10 (just one time)

...as discuted on this forum!

.

The JPG of the stopwatch was much cleaner. Very few "squiggle" artifacts even up to 50% viewing.

These pumped up shots are not near as good in that respect. I'm hoping that pumping up those settings is the difference between the first JPG you posted and these other ones. I still appreciate you posting whatever you can for us to look over.

I'll have my HX400 friday or saturday and know for sure whether this camera is going to make the grade against my SX50. Some pics I have seen posted on the internet, like your stopwatch JPG, gave me a lot of hope that the HX400 would match the SX50 in image quality, and then I would have a good super zoom for birding that also had good manual focus. Time will tell.

thanks kindly, Chris

Wow, thanks !

I am really interrested in a superzoom camera.

I wasn't all that happy with the HX300 results I saw. Also, what was wierd with the HX300 was sometimes I'd get a shot where the colors weren't right. My daughter had a pink wicker basket with some colorfull dol clothing in it. I would take test shots of that and unless I used the "Real" color setting, the pink basket would look more red than pink. Not sure why that was.

I'm wondering how the HX400 stacks up.

White balance can make that difference. Based on your statement, pink will become red under warm light such as incandescent. Natural daylight and flash tend towards cool or bluish and would keep the color in the pink range. Fluorescent light is greenish and would make the pink look off too. And then there is the combination of flash and slow shutter that captures both the flash light spectrum and the spectrum of the background light, making colors again, look slightly off.

After seeing some reviews that specifically tested the white balance(ephotozine does a nice jobs showing it) I thought that might be what it was, but wasn't sure.

In any case, it would be nice to see if the 400 does a better job of handling this than the 300 did.

All depends on the IQ, speed of auto focus, and shot to shot times. If a camera is slow you can miss a lot of shots.Good view finders are a big plus for older shooters like me. So far HX400 sounds fast and IQ looking pretty good, the IQ of the P600 looks really sharp but I still have question on auto focus and speed, the sp100 with the red dot sight looks interesting. The two reviews on the fuji S1 say IQ not great. Sounds Like canon is going to bring out their big gun. I am sure we will start seeing more reviews and forum pictures. Lots of choices and might come down to which features along with IQ and speed we need. :-D

That looks great, thanks for posting and please post more.
