Blood is thicker than water so they say, and its true I guess, as I never thought to enjoy photography as I did once and after selling all my gear some time ago...but I just had to have a cam again. But instead of the once very much loved bulky SLR ('the sweat...the sweat...') with megaphone shaped tele in front of it I got myself this wonderfull little cam weighing just a few hundred grams and its totally wonderfull actually :-D

Never thought to be having so much fun 'n pleasure from a compact but I do...I do :-)

There are those who would have nothing but the biggest and heaviest, latest, and most expensive. Some are professionals and probably do need it; but many others are poseurs, professional wannabes. But none will admit what you have just said: A well designed and set up fixed lens camera with a small sensor is a blast to use and can take some very good pictures.

There's a lot to be said about a light, compact camera. I feel it's liberating; especially at my age and physical condition. (I'm 76) A small bag with a light camera and a bottle or two of water, and I can still go a lot of places to get better shots. Burden me with my DSLR and several lenses and the water and I can't do it anymore.

My current "do everything" camera is the Pansonic FZ200; but I keep looking at the SX50HS for the longer focal length and more robust settings.

Damovich,

Welcome to the SX50 club. I did the same a little over a year ago (will be 77 next month) and have really enjoyed this little gem.

Nice series but I too really like your low and close kitty perspective of #3. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to the forum Damovich.

You're off to a good start,

Rob.

I did exactly the same thing...from EOS5D MkIII to SX50, and don't regret it one little bit! In fact, I enjoy using this little gem far more than I did the EOS.

And where are you going to buy a 1200mm lens for your EOS without having to sell the house, car, etc. just to pay for it :)

<g> Somehow I knew you would!

Welcome to the SX50 world Damovich. I've never shot with a dSLR but there sure seem to be a lot of people who have, have converted to the SX50 and aren't looking back! Loved your shots. TFS :)

Let me go a little further with a thought or two...........I once had all the bells and whistles too of the DSLR bag of goodies. I never mastered using all that stuff and then as age and medical problems crept up on me I sold it all and remained discontent with a pretty dependable S3IS for a few years. I then heard about the SX50 and watched from afar but finally gave in a few months ago and got one. I really enjoy that camera, tho I will say I haven't mastered it either but I sure am having fun. I'm medically restricted to not doing a lot of get out and find it stuff to shoot but if I can talk my driver in to taking me to some of the parks etc I can find a lot to shoot right from the seat of the vehicle. Oh BTW the driver is that old woman who let's me sleep in the big bed, been married to her now for 33 years after a practice wife for 22 years. hmmmmmmmmmmmm that makes me 77 I think.

Welcome to the SX50 and all it's attributes.

Thanks again all!

The SX50 is a wonderful little beast indeed, what it lacks in sensorsize, speed and focuscapabilities, in contrast to a DSLR, it makes up for in portability and optical performance. Though I'm strong enough still to carry a DSLR and a big lens with me I would rather not as the bulk of it takes away the fun for me as I like to walk for hours on end. The SX50 really took me by surprise and though its less capable in terms of body-performance I consider it the closest thing to a DSLR(+tele) in terms of optical resolving power, the lens truly is a work of art for that matter.

Regards
