Hi everyone,

So I've seen a bunch of pictures from people using the Olympus TCON-17 teleconverter and they look nice.

Has anyone here had any trouble with the adapter? Or has it pretty much just been a great teleconverter overall without any complaints?

Thanks!

I'm happy with mine. One thing I didn't realize before I bought it is that you have to use it pretty much at full zoom. Anything less and you get vignetting. It doesn't give you a higher range so much as a higher fixed maximum.

Thanks for the feedback. It's interesting to hear the usable range is pretty limited to almost full zoom.

Anyone else have feedback?

Is there anyone here who is/was not happy with the TCON-17?

If it simply isn't the venerable B-300 rebadged then I don't know what is. At $100 it's a steal. Great Lens! Here's the roundup of Olympus teleconverters that I own, the Tcon 17 blows 'em all away...hands down!

A-200; Tcon 14; C-180; C-210

I primarily use the Tcon 17 on my Olympus C-2100. But here's some pics I took with it attached to my F717:

So it looks like everyone agrees that the TCON-17 is pretty darned good and recommended, especially considering its price, huh?

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback!

Personally I wouldn't say that it's limited to full zoom, I zoom out to just past the vinetting, and compose from there to full zoom, as required.

Seems to give a reasonalble range to work with.

does the TCON-17 fit right on the F707 without any other modifications to the lenses?

Hello everyone,

First time posting here, but have been reading for about four months. Due to the chatter about the TCON-17 I decided to buy one last week and try it, seeing as I was in the market for a tele lens and have never used one.

It arrived Saturday, and today I took it on a test run. Fortunately the circus is in town today and provided me with plenty of opportunities with the tigers, lions, elephants and such, that I love it. For the price and the ease of use, it's what i've been looking for and I'm sure will be a great addition to my side business. I haven't figured out yet how to imbed pictures in my post's, so the best I can do is direct you to my website. http://www.action2photo.com

The pictures of the animals in the portfolio are all taken today with the TCON-17. Now keep in mind, my website decreases the quality of the photos. If anyone is willing to explain how to imbed them here, I'll be glad to post the full pic in a post.

Sincerely,

Jay Doyscher

You'll need a 58mm to 55mm step down ring.

mine came on Monday. too bad the weather has been lousy lately, but i have used it. no pix unless you want a craptacularly grey sky...

here are some MINOR complaints:

the bag the came with it is too tight, hard to remove. having to use step down ring (or any ring) is annoying. with my ring, i am having problems removing what i intend to, which is the converter without the ring attached. i suppose i'll be looking to remedy those situations soon.

otherwise, great converter. canon makes one with a 58mm rear thread for the g2\3, but i have not heard much from the owners, so i went with olympus.

oh, got it for less than $120 shipped from B&H.

The bag is so tight that I have never gotten it out with the larger front lense cover still on the TCON. Most report the same thing. Just look at it as a feature, auto removal of the front cover. ;^)

I leave my step-down ring on the TCON all the time, but that means that you cant get the rear cover (smaller one) to fit on it for storage in the bag. I just put it over the step-down and pull the drawstrings tight on the tight bag, and it generally stays in place. My bagged TCON goes into my larger camera bag, so protection of the TCON is not too much of an issue with me.

One thing I've done with my WCON adapter is to leave the ring in place and use the back half of a 58mm filter cap set...

In any case, thanks, everyone, for your responses so far. It's interesting to hear that the only complaints about the TCON-17 have been that it limits the usable zoom range a fair amount and that it's difficult to remove the lens from the original bag...

Thanks!

My complaint is that it is hard for me to remove the step ring. I just leave it on the TCON-17 after a couple of finger cuts. :)
