Hi,

Can anyone confirm or correct my belief that on my E-P5, the focus peaking only works with current m4/3 lenses and not old legacy lenses. I have recently tried an OM 50/f1.4 and 135/f3.5. Great fun to go fully manual and some lovely results, but can't seem to get the focus peaking to work.

Am I forgetting to switch something on in the notorious Pen quick and easy-to-navigate menu system?! ;-)

Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Yes, focus peaking works on E-P5 with legacy glass. The thing is, you need to assign a Fn button to the task to toggle it on/off.

The native m4/3 lenses will engage peaking should you choose automatically when turning the MF ring; but with legacy there is no electrical connection to the legacy lens thus turn it on manually and focus manually.

I assigned the Fn on top plate to "peaking" via the menu, button assignments.

The peaking settings (black or white on contrast edges) is set in the pink gear menu. I set mine for white generally (works better in the dark I find, YMMV) Works in VF-4 and in the LCD, even magnified to whatever X level you choose..

I just confirmed this on mine. I put my 1982 Pentax Asashi SMC 50mm f1.7 on adapter, mounted on E-P5.

Typically I use native m4/3 (12, 25, 75 m.Z's) but for fun, it's nice to use the old glass when I have time. Shot wide open they veil a bit but the SMC's (and I'm suspecting the OM coated primes) would fair well stopped down a hair. Here is a shot with the Pentax 50mm @ f2.8. Not quite as sharp / resolution as my PL25 but has a nice warm rendering I like for still life or some landscape stuff.

Always shot on tripod...

Here is the setup. I used the white peaking at max along the left eye, then shot (shutter delay / timer).

I was trying to figure out the same about my new E-M10 + Rokinon 7.5mm combo and lucily found this thread.

Thank a lot!

Hoping you can help! I have recently bought an Oly ep-5 and got the peaking thing figured out. I don't know how to get the IS working and the keying in of focal lengths.
Press OK to get the SCP, bottom left corner is the IS setting, select and press OK, press Info, use rear wheel to change focal length to nearest setting to actual focal length of the lens.

If SCP not enabled try my help page at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/53-epl5-scp.html written for E-PL5 but works for all.

Also of help may be my E-P5 menu page http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/56-ep5-custom-menus.html

Oh, the second way to do it. Forgot to add....

Press Menu, down to Menu 2, Right to items, down to Image Stabiliser, right to details, right again to IS selection, Right again to select Focal Length, use rear dial or Up/Down to change length. OK to set, then press menu a few times to back out to live view, or half press the shutter to get back to live view.
