Its summer.

From several people I communicated w/, most feel they have spent too much time on this and other forum so they've consciously cut down the amount of time spent here. I am guilty of that myself--spending too much time here. The other reason for me is enjoying my s2 and shooting a lot more now, and w/ that, more processing time and less time here.

I don't feel that there're too many beginners' questions. I feel the questions are the same as before. It just that the questions are not in your and other oldtimers' interests anymore. I feel the torch is still lit but just being held by different people that's all.

First, I wanted to become wedding photographer. Next, it was landscapes. Then, I wanted to do wildlife. Lately, I am a confused photographer... so now, I just shoot anything :-)

well perhaps the more skillful you get, the more the questions become like 'beginner' questions :)

This is a very good point...

I think...

1. The same questions are getting asked over and over - it seems that very few are prepared to do a search before posting.

2. The initial rush to a digital workflow is letting up a bit - people are not in a different kind of panic every day - biweekly now I think.

3. Slowly, I think (and hope) that a lot of the amateurs are realizing that photography happens behind the camera, not inside it. Therefore there is a point at which MTF ratings and pixl configuration etc just become pretty boring. I'm encouraged by the fact that the techno noise is reducing....

4. On this forum, a lot of pretty poor images get posted. There was a time when I used to look through just about everything. I just can't be bothered anymore - there are a couple of people whose work I will always have a look at, but the bulk of what is posted here, has very little photographic merit, IMHO.

well, sometimes it is difficult to find earlier posted answers. the search option is not always good. and what are stupid beginner questions? we all started once and I am also a beginner, so obviously I ask stupid questions ;-(

so be it.

BUT: why not make a FAQ on pbase? with answers and tips for beginners as well as pros?

AND: why not start a challenge again if quality is poor as someone stated later in the thread? this way we can all learn and look at other pics (if we want to)

I can help out if people would like. Although I am a beginner in photography I know a little about websites and stuff so....

With "stupid begiiner questions" I meant the ProForum
not so much this here .. Here you expect similar
questions all the time .. sometimes you answer
sometimes not ..
I mean in the ProForum people still posting questions
like "10D or D100" and alike .. I get so sick of it ..

No offense please gals and guys .. I do accept this in
the brand forums not in the pro or lighting forum ..

The lighting forum in particular was interesting 4-6
months ago .. now .. almost dead ..

Just wondering thats all ..

I was in the Kodak forum also... That one looks really sad...

Canon and Nikon have alot of posts because they have more cameras out their... Fuji really only has the S1 and S2 in the Pro area...

Nikon has the D100, D1x and D1H...

And Canon has the D60, 10D and the 1Ds...Plus people when they have lens question go into the Nikon and Canon forums also...

Well, some folks (like me) visit here regularly but usually do not ask or reply as I get most of what I need just by reading. I have a couple of friends who are like minded and do the same. Also, I have posted a couple times with pics and did not get too much response so have stopped - (I also had some trouble with posting images so I gave up!!) No hard feelings or anything but some of us beginners/hobbyists do get a bit intimidated at times.
Cheers
Eugene

Some of the questions are ridiculous on the Pro Talk board. Seriously, some people don't know where to post this stuff.

But then again, many Canon users just so f#ckin' stupid.

Like you, I go to the Lighting and Pro Talk board. The Pro talk board has gone to heII, same with the lighting board but not as bad.

I used to spend a lot of time reading this and some other forums, but it all just becomes same, same after a while.

As stated, often too many silly questions posted and frequently in the wrong forums. But there are other problems too.

Too many people posting photos in the forums. There is a gallery for that. I see too many 'look at the great photo I took 5 minutes ago' posts. The forums are just not the place for that.

Too many flamers also. If you post something that is negative, then you risk getting flamed by some of those who do not agree.

I also see a lot of misinformation and way too much speculation.

It has become just too much trouble to try and sift through all this useless noise. Obviously, I still come by from time to time, but not nearly as often as I used to.

Have fun all.

I have noticed the last several times I have posted I have gotten about a couple of responses to a photo I have posted. I have come away with the notion that the picture probably $ucks to everyone else's eye. I know its the web but I guess I get insecure in that nature. It's obvious some of the posters on this thread don't want to see some amateur photos but I guess I thought that was approved by the majority of folks. Maybe my thinking is wrong in that account.

The flavor has changed and the board has been extremely helpful to me in the past and there are several individuals on this board that I respect and enjoy reading their opinions.

I am a volounteer clinical instructor of family medicine here at my town. I teach residents how to do colonoscopy and endoscopy and I always like to give postive feedback with the negative. But I never give NO feedback....and I guess that has been happening to me. I guess I need an ataboy now and then. I have rambled too much and will keep quiet now. Keep taking pics folks I enjoy looking at them!

I'll concur with other members here, that the questions are for other people to ask, and a new round of initiated to answer them. We had a very exciting fall, with 3 DSLR going neck to neck, then we all learned from each other and eventually reached a plateau. after that, it became a "look at my photo" festival. Some good, some not so good, but what a great place this is regardless. I learned so much and hopefully became a better photographer from what I read here.

There's no doubt in my mind that everyone will be back when new models eventually come out.
Meanwhile personally, I can't stop shooting........ :-)

I always look at your pictures Tony, and a lot of times I make comments.

I know how it feels to post a picture and get no responce. No one posts a picture on this forum that they are not proud of.

That is one thing I always liked about Mahesh. He always had a comment about your work, or suggestions on how to make it better. Keep um coming Tony, and don't feel bad. Ken

People want to impose to many rules to regulate how the forum is and what content it shall or shall not have. The narrower the focus, the less activity there will be.

There are but so many people and if you want some to go here, others there, and even others elsewhere, you are left with only a few. This is what exclusion leads to, a lonely forum. A forum is like a public swimming pool and we have people showing up saying, hey, I only want a pool with people that wear pink and blue suits.

It's spring going on summer, more people are out doing other things, the forum is likely a lower priority.

I have seen too many times where we steal the joy from someone by stepping on their enthusiasm for the camera and this past time. If it were not for the help of some and honest feedback with encouragement, I would not be learning all that I have. When we flame people without good cause, they leave and we narrow that group I referred to above.

People start off with great enthusiasm and that some times fades or people burn out. The S2 is a camera that humbles the beginners and amateurs who pick it up and expect pictures to magically come from it. I have been humbled so many times here by some of your photos that as Tony stated, one can become overwhelmed, feel inadequate or unskilled. I will say though, it drove me to think I could do better, drove me to lean more and slowly but surely the pictures improve. Yet we often stomp on those with a desire to learn!

The really great conversations here sometime invoke passion and people get revved up and start attacking each other. Some people simply say to heck with it and leave. Explore peoples ideas, don't attack them is what I say. Sometimes said as question the ideas, not the people.

And as is the case, Art itself invokes emotion and feelings. I have seen envy, hate, awe, and many other emotions conveyed here. Try to understand why people say what they say before you respond. The written word carries little tonality or clues as to the motive behind the words.

Well, that probably didn't make a lot of sense! Maybe someone will flame me, hate me, or tell me to take such talk elsewhere! Of course I am only kidding here to drive the point that some will choose not to see.

Its just a camera, just a hobby, just a job in the end. Lets keep it in perspective. That said, I am going to try and rev things up a little with a potluck of subjects!

Have fun, take pictures, learn, share it all with your fellow Fuji SLR forum member!
