TTL with the ef-42

Anyone know why live view TTL only works with the shutter speed in auto which sets it to 75 every time. I'd like to control ambient light exposure via shutter speed and flash exposure via aperture which works but as soon as I set it to say f5.6 shutter at 30 the screen gets dark

Go to the menu, SET-UP 1 > SCREEN SET-UP > PREVIEW EXP. IN MANUAL MODE. Set it to OFF.

Note that I first typed ON. I had to edit it to the proper answer of OFF. I'm not sure if you saw it before I edited.
