Unknown Member

Can't remember his name, Dave something, packed his bags and cancelled his account after one too many helpings of forum negativity. Sometimes, I feel like doing the same and simply going off to take photographs. As the darkness of winter recedes, it's increasingly likely.

It's probably worth taking a complete break, anyway. If only I'd read the forums first and found that my kit was unusably awful before I'd bought it, maybe I wouldn't be having the time of my life with it now... if that makes sense :)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what's going on here?

I've never seen or heard of an "unknown member" posting to these forums.

??????????????
From the gear list, the member is Bajerunner, whose posts usually appear with his user name. I guess it's just more lossage from DPR's forum code.

That's an interesting theory but how does a person leave? And, how does DPR know they left?

Once you join the forums there is no way of "leaving" unless you manage to get yourself banned for life.

I've seen DPR agree to delete some accounts in the past for various reasons (privacy is one). It's easy to determine who the member was, just look at a reply to a post and the former ID is in the "In Reply to" field in the message header.

Although an NSA conspiracy theory has some appeal :-)

Cheers,
Doug

correct - it's a closed account

And when the world needs him the most, a big "U" will be projected onto the clouds over the city, and Unknown Member will swoop in and save the day with a perfectly edited photo and a politely worded and insightful analysis of someone else's work. Just like before.

Thanks, Unknown Member!

I suggest you visit the many experts over at 'Off Topic' a place where our panels of trained professionals will be glad to help you out.

That's an interesting forum but I'd be afraid to ask a serious question there.

Just the same, I'm guilty of getting involved with some of posts. Never a boring moment in Off Topic and you're right, everyone is an "authority" on every subject. :-)

I didn't know you could cancel your account!

Or, in this case, the big B, and no, I don't mean Batman.

and the 18 posts before it and the 4 afterwards pretty much summarize the situation on the Retouching forum, the Open Talk forum, the Mac forum, etc.
