If you had to shoot a wedding with just ONE lens which lens would that be and why .... I know it's not logical. ..it's just a random thought

800mm

just because

JUST BECAUSE I CAN!

Full Frame - 24-105mm, crop - 15-85mm. Focal length range covers large group shots to portraits. IS more of a help in low light conditions than the extra stop of an f/2.8.

Not that I own that lens or shoot weddings.

Why is this not in the Canon Lens forum?

Lighting conditions can affect the choice, if you know it in advance. Or did you mean one lens that will cover all situations?

You should not be shooting a wedding if you do not have the right gear. Ideally you should have 2 FF cameras, one as backup and to use second lens. You should have a 24-70 2.8 70-200 2.8 is and an 85 1.2 or 1.4

Rent the gear and make less money to get the experience.

Go to the library, there are video or dvd that explains how to do weeding photographs.

There is posing subject, indoor outdoor lighting flash and reflectors, group and which people and which groups, bride and parents groom and parents all of them together. Pre shoot, shooting women getting ready, shooting hands and rings, pre ceremony bride and groom, during ceremony and video. After ceremony, boque toss, party ect. If you don't get this right, you are potentially ruining someones memories who has hired you to do it right. Even if it is for free for someone you know this can turn into a friend ending experience or even a lawsuit. Not worth it, Hire a pro or go to pro and become a journeyman for them.

No question: Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II. Razor sharp, flare resistant, zooming from mid-range wide angle to short telephoto.

I have only ever shot one wedding in my life : that was my sister's , more than a few years ago , and I shot it with my Rolleiflex T , which from memory had a 75mm f3.5 Zeiss Tessar lens ( the taking lens ) .

Back in the day lots of wedding photographers used Rolleiflexes , and most would have only had the standard 75mm variety ; the tele and wide variants being comparatively rare things .

I didn't find it a problem , and my sister was delighted with the album she got , even though I probably only shot five or six rolls of film .

How many wedding photographers these days would shoot only perhaps 60 exposures at a wedding , but take care to make sure just about every one was good ?

Most these days seem to machine gun thousands of rubbish , presumably like the monkeys with typewriters trying to produce the works of Shakespeare !
