Ask anyone over 60 how's it going and they'll tell you 'so far, so good!'

Snowing outside, miserable day. Fuji warmed up, so here's a negative space b/w. I see a heart and a smooch, just shadows from a thrift store tripod.

What a nice thread we have here...lots of great pix, keep it up!

Trusty Fuji X-10, full wide angle close-up, flipped and pp'd in Elements 6.

Very Creative Joby Tripod View. . . If didn't have one I'd Never have guessed. . .

Those Cold Winter Days sometimes FORCE a little Creative Indoor Set Design to Capture that Photo that Didn't Exist. . . ( Warmer Day Photo on Monitor & Some Play with External Lighting & Contrast Adj in LightZone )

When I saw the post I rushed out to the Garden with my trusty X10 set to Super Macro to see what was new. The weather has recently warmed up here in Northeast Thailand tho no rain as yet. But lots of new things sprouting so thought I'd share.

Yesterday this was just a bud and today it burst forth

water droplet on a beautiful variegated leaf

my Easter lilly's have finally started to sprout, so hope they'll be ready for Easter- have both red and white which have bloomed every year for the last 4-5 years.

My first mango this year! tho won't be ripe for another couple months.

the last of my Christmas plants which I hope to keep and replant next year

Plumeria or Frangipani blooms all year but starting to get more since it's warmed up. Thailand famous for many different kinds. I have 2 trees- one yellow, one pink and white

Enjoy and please comment. Not real macros but the X10 does a pretty fair job in Super Macro mode. Tho can't touch my old 105mm Nikkor- sigh.

Beautiful Macros KKJohn :-) Thanks for Posting. . .

I recently picked up a Raynox DCR-250 Macro Lens that Clips on my HS50EXR Filter Thread

The Clip-On Macro Lens wasn't too expensive & Adds a Decent Level of Macro Abilities. . .

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. I'll be going back to Canada this summer so will have a look for the Raynox. I enjoy Macros so sounds like it could fit the bill, tho I still miss my Nikkor 105. Actually, I still have it but my D200 has bit the dust and needs a $5-600 repair job, which I'm not prepared to pay, and don't want to buy another Nikon DSLR, and don't want to get into the Fuji X system either. I'm waiting for the X30 or maybe the X200, and will trade in my Nikkor lenses for one of these. But I'll still keep my X10, even tho the noise in low light (as I also do a lot of Street photography, both day and night) is annoying when I know there are other Fuji cameras that are so much better. I wish that I'd gotten the X100/S but not sure how the macro is on it. If the X30 or X200 are not out when I go to Canada I may try to pick up a X100. Any other Fuji cameras you might suggest? The X-S1 was on my wish list also, but it's basically a super zoomed version of the X10, so still the low light noise. I would like a super zoom of some sort as I will be doing some sailing and travelling this summer, but don't think any of the current Fuji zooms are any better than the X10 as far as IQ goes. And not sure I want to get a Sony zoom, tho I know the IQ is outstanding. I may pick up a X-S1 if I can get a decent price. Am I right? Appreciate any comments you may have.

Hi KKJohn :-) Thanks for you comments. . .

Selecting the "Right" camera is a Tough Subject ( At Least for Me ) It depends alot on what kind of Lens Shooting Range that YOU Want. . . AND If you're willing to Change Lens !

Their are Lots of Cameras that can take "Great Pictures" within their Lens Range & Certainly NONE of the Absolute Highest Quality Camera Lens Combinations have a REALLY LARGE RANGE !
For example the X-Series Available Lenses MAX Out at 230mm ( FUJINON LENS XC50-230mmF4.5-6.7 ) I'm sure this would be an Amazingly High Quality 230mm lens but FOR ME - Not Nearly Enough Range. . .

To make a Longer Story Shorter. . . I ended up buying an HS50EXR and am "Fairly Happy". . .
I LOVE the Built-In Super-Macro + 24mm-1,000mm Manual Lens Range & the FAST Focusing. . .

The HS50EXR has a 1/2" SMALL SENSOR and it's Un-Realistic to think it will Fully Complete with Larger Sensor Cameras, so it's a Matter of Weighing the Options and Discovering IF there is ANY WAY to Make Up for Some of the Sensor Limitations. . .

Turns Out there are BUT You'll Have to WORK for Them. . . Here's an Example. . .

Above is a SOOC HS50EXR In-Camera Jpeg ( An OK Photo but Nothing to Get Excited About ) This was using the EXR : Auto Mode which is the ONLY HS50EXR Mode that shots EXR : SN + DR mode with 8-Mp RAW Files Note:This Mode does NOT Allow In-Camera USER adjustable White Balance so do W/B Corrections in RAW

The HS50EXR has a Powerful Processor BUT NOT-Enough On-Board-Processing Power to Get the MOST Detail & Noise Separation Out of that 1/2" Amazing Sensor. . . You Need some RAW PP. . .

The EXACT SAME Photograph BUT this Output was Processed using : Photo Ninja RAW Converter. . . I wouldn't say this Fully Competes with High End Cameras but it's a Decent Technical Rendering Quality imho :-)

Then take the SAME Camera & Screw On a 1.54x TC + 1.4 IDZ & Shoot a 3,080mm Shot Like Below

100% Crop 1:1 Direct Pixel Mapped. . . ( NOT Scaled )

HS50EXR with some PP from an In-Camera Jpeg. . .

PP in FastStone Image Viewer. . . ( Click to View Full Size )

Enough from Me - I'll just say that I find the HS50EXR an Amazing Camera with LOTS of RANGE. . .
I'm Personally Looking Forward to something like an X-Trans Sensor HS60. . .

Good Shooting & Cheers from Orion :-)

Hi KK

Just a desktop comparison since I have one of each. X-10 has Super Macro, X-100 only Macro and there are big differences in distance of nearest focus. But maybe a better way to judge is the field of view at the closest point where the auto-focus gives you a green (in landscape mode, in inches, top to bottom).

The X-100's FOV is 3" approx. against the X-10's 1.25" approx.. So the smaller camera will let you fill the frame better but its sensor being smaller gives you lower resolution. For aiming and focussing on close subjects I prefer the X-100, its viewfinder is way better. For general handling and portability, the X-10 can't be beat.

If you find an X-100, get extra batteries, the generic ones from Asia have worked just fine for me.
