Why is there so much negativity on this DPREVIEW?

As I said, you are making it about the person and not what they are saying at any given time.

True trolls are also rare in forums. What is not rare are people that like to call others trolls to attack and try and discredit them and ultimately avoid having to respond to what they are saying.
Rare? No, not really. These fora have more than their fair share of trolls, and yes, it is about the person posting. By the way, trolls rarely have anything useful to contribute. That's pretty much their MO. They just want to stir the plot.

There is a reason that we have an IGNORE button here on DPR. I have never used it, but you may make me reconsider.
So one critical post to you and that's how you react? Really?

You are now supporting everything I wrote.
Does the word Sarcasm mean anything to you? Should I have put a smiley to alert you? :-P

It can't be changed, and most of the posters are physically ugly too. I'm so bummed out. . .
Here in SE Asia, I am called 'handsome man', but back in the USA it's probably old fart. :-D
This site is mainly about the Anglosphere, and specifically with a majority of US users. I have been wondering often if it was the Educational system that went to the dogs. O if it is the petty crime element that expanded, and marries well with the troll element.

In Asian sites they seem much more sedate - is there a traditional politeness at play? Are families stronger? In any way it seems it would take so little to improve things, if people were not so bitter and alone...
No, I think mainly it is the anonymity that the internet provides. Unfortunately, the internet tends to reinforce the bitterness through the lack of face to face contact with actual people.

For example, the individual who may have hundreds of 'friends' on facebook, but zero in real life.

Sometimes the only way we can feel better about ourselves is by dragging someone or something else down. But we also get a positive buzz from being helpful and encouraging or even modest about the knowledge or successes we have. Depends on which angels we are listening to on any given day.

LOL, I am not saying that there might not be a psychological factor, all I say is that we have a geographical one, and hence it is possibly due to bad education. If you are well educated you will be mostly tolerant, and polite. Exactly the opposite of trolls, who are also very distinctively illiterate. Where did education go to the dogs, you think?

Am.

I reaffirm my previous comment. You are simply labeling people to try and dismiss them entirely. You mentioned ignoring certain posts and people. Well that can be done without calling people "trolls," "fanboys," and "lunatics."

Sorry to break it to you but there is nothing positive or productive about "sarcasm."

Its all about gear now. When I first got in to photography I found this forum and notice the olympus 43rd folks was all about sharing photos. So I went out and bought some oly gear. Now I realize the limitations of 43rd I moved on to ff nikon. But when I think back the best photos ive seen here was from the olympus forum. I know there are alot of guys here who are true about taking pix and sharing this hobby/job they truly enjoy. But the most is all about gear. Sorda like a car forum. Money talks.

Ok, understand. Yes, I suppose that education does come into play to some degree.

I think education started to go downhill when it became policy to not injure someones image of themselves by failing them. Too much political correctness, I'm afraid.

The irony is, that I think such policies are actually bad for the individual in the long run, as they soon find themselves in the real world with little or no useful knowledge or skills.

That seems to be so. I was especially taken aback by the internecine warfare among Nikon fans over the Df, much blood soaked the carpet.

It's somewhat surprising that Fuji's X-T1 failed to trigger any such response - everyone sat back and said, "oh, it's pwetty!", even the Nikon fans. Still, it's only just announced, there's time yet to hear how awful it is :)
