Have remote access PC available to connect straight to the camera.

It'll be grate if you'll be able to run the testing tool against K-3. I've asked several people but don't have reply yet. Please send me PM if you can do this. The link the plug-in can be found in my second root post in this thread.

I have a K-x and i am using at this moment WIN XP 32 and LR 3.6. I already have a license for LR 5.1 but i will have to do the upgrade for WIN7 first.

I am also interested in the price of the LR tether plugin.

645D found immediately and picture taken and DEMO display on PC...

However sandtimer STAYS on backscreen of 645D...(this will empty battery because CPU stays active)

K3 -> NOT DETECTED

It should not. Please read pm message i've just leaved. It contains the link to a diagnostic tool.

Have lightroom 4&5 and K-3 - Would love to be involved in testing on K-3

The link is provided in my reply to the root message in this tread. Please give it a try.

Haven't had time to try the LR plug-in but I too am desiring an Android app to make this happen. Outside being able to tether a tablet or phone would often be a HUGE help for shots we otherwise mist kludge up a solution to capture since you can't get near the viewfinder or even rear display. Being able to see the LiveView on the tablet/phone solves this totally.

I do get it for the most part it would need to be a tablet with a USB port. A tablet with HDMI port is an output only port, yes?

No matter the hurdles thanks so much for tackling this long standing and overdue issue. Bummer PK_Tether ran out of steam. Would be a nice place for you to start from.

Keep us all updated, there are quite a few who really could and will use full tethering with LiveView & control on the remote device...
Dell Venue 8 Pro running Win8.1 32bit, usb video capture device, one cable for video and USB for Nikon, small two port hub, and an OTG cable. PKTriggerCord for tethering. This setup works with live view and tethering, but you have to turn off live view before you can touch a setting in PKTriggerCord or activate the shutter. This is a step forward over having the camera lock up if live view was activated while any tethering software is connected to the camera.

Live view is remotely displayed on the Dell tablet at PAL resolution, 720x576, which a little higher than the 640x480 of the k-5's LCD. Being a Windows computer with wifi built in, remote control for the Dell tablet is also possible from another computer, tablet, or smart phone.

The tablet will run standard Windows software like LR, Elements, AftershotPro, Geosetter, ... TPE is free for Windows, so I have that on the tablet as well. The tablet lacks a GPS for TPE, so plan just use GPS over BT or Bluetooth GPS on my Android phone, and have the tablet connect via bluetooth to the GPS running on my phone.

There are other models of atom based Windows 8.1 tablets on the market, eight inch and ten inch models and some offer GPS and HDMI out ports, which the Dell is missing. Some models also have keyboard docks, desktop docks, and USB 3.0. I wanted small and stylus support. The Dell has a cruder stylus solution, but it works. The new Asus eight inch tablet has the Wacom digitizer, so its stylus experience is going to as nice as the Microsoft Surface Pro series. The only thing that is making me keep the Dell is that I know its battery can be replaced.

That's pretty slick though I'm not sure I'd want to be standing behind you trying to take that sunset picture! Still, not quite as obnoxious as the guy with the iPad. :D

Another vote for an Android solution here, btw.

As others have noted, the software detects the K-5 but not the K-3

Overall, it works, but lacks some functionality. No way to control camera settings from LR as yet.

Live view works on the back of the camera on a 'one shot' basis. i.e. it has to be invoked for each shot.

Works fine with my K20D and Acer netbook.

Lightroom version: 5.3 [938183]

Operating system: Windows 8 Home Premium Edition

Version: 6.2 [9200]

Application architecture: x64

The only issue I had was on installation. I'm set up as a standard user with a separate admin account for doing software installs. I ran the .exe file, gave it the admin password when the windows prompt came up, and it put the extracted plugin files in the admin account's user folder instead of the current user's folder. Once I figured out where it was I copied it over to the correct location and it worked fine.

BTW, the K20D and K10D present video via the usb port on the camera. The old Pentax Camera Assistant software does display what the camera sees on the computer. It's not very big, and a bit grainy, but it is there.

You're talking about the software displaying the captured shot after the shutter is fired, not live view, correct? The K20D will do live view to a capture device or monitor, but I don't remember the Remote Assistant software being able to display live view. I'm pretty sure it locked up the camera if you tried to start live view with the Remote Assistant connected to the camera.

What the Pentax Assistant software can also do that hasn't been replicated in the third party software is save camera settings like an enhanced USER modes to the computer. Even if you don't use it for unlimited USER modes, you should at least save the settings you have in the camera to the computer so that if your camera gets reset, or just has settings changed by Uncle George when you aren't looking, you'll have a way to set them all up again.

Thank you
Russell

Please let us know once you get a Mac OS/X version.

thanks,

You may be right Russell. I can't get Pentax Remote Assistant to connect to the camera from my netbook. I just remembered that it would show the focus points and I was thinking it was a live view.

Are you running Remote Assistant with administrator privileges? It is needed.

If you have iTunes on the netbook, you might want to disable all the itune services and kill off running iTunes applications. There was one USB listener that waits for you to plug in an iPod that interferes with Remote Assistant. I think it only happens on XP though. iTunes on Win 7 doesn't seem to have this issue with other programs that need direct access to the USB ports. If iTunes isn't installed, look for other software that monitors the USB ports. Maybe a Lightroom import service, or something?

Thank you

Pentax Remote Assistant does not like being plugged in to a USB hub i.e. a USB port on a monitor or an USB extension hub, it only works when plugged directly in to a USB socket on the PC/Laptop
