What the consensus of the picture quality of the K-30 AS OPPOSED TO THE KII

Same sensor, slightly different support chips, image quality is equivalent and both excellent. The K30's PRIME-M chip allows for better video options, the K-5ii's SAFOX X gives better AF versatility.

THX I JUST PICKED UP THE THE K30 AND DIDNT SEE ANY POST ABOUT IT,WAS BEGINNIG TO WONDER IF ITS A BAD CAMERA. WHATS YOUR SUGGESTION FOR BEST FOCUS?

I have found improved AF by using continuous focus and switching focus in the menu from the shutter button to the AF button on back. I just press the button with my thumb and leave it there until I press the shutter. Use only one focus point, but select the point closest to what you want in focus.

Keep in mind that focus is not the only factor in getting a sharp photo. I recommend, whenever practical, a shutter speed of 1/(2X the focal length), i.e., if your FL is 125 mm, your shutter speed is at least 1/250.

Here are some examples with specific lenses:

It just occurred to me that comparing photos in the Pentax Gallery, Flickr, etc. may not be a fair comparison of the cameras because I assume the average user of a K5II is a better photographer than the average user of a K30. What do you think?

IMHO. the only fair test is to make big prints and view the images side by side. In many cases, such a test "levels the playing field" and allows one to critique an image far from "pixel peeping" and focus instead on more important issues like "overall look and feel". Pixel peeping is useless. As are most resolution tests.

YMMV

thx for the tip

that's funni anyway both sets of pics looks good to me

That's true from what I can see its close

I would suggest using spot focus selection mode and getting used to having a high contrast thing for the camera to focus on - like a persons eye or where two different pieces of clothing meet. The red dot in the viewfinder is only an approximation of where the camera is looking to focus - practice to see how big that area is in real life. Also recognize the far left and right focus points are less reliable than the middle ones. If your subject is moving (or if you're moving) and they are somewhat close to you, it will be hard to get a in focus shot. Different lenses will focus at different speeds - if yours isn't as fast as you'd like, let us know what you have and we might be able to tell you if there's one that's faster to focus.

The k30 is a very good camera - you should be able to get some very good shots with it.

Good luck

NICE PICTURE ON YOUR FLICKRE ACC ,ANYWAY THX

The K-5II has an ISO 80 option that allows for a little bit more dynamic range than the K-30 can get at ISO 100. Otherwise, output from both cameras should look very similar. Of course, the K-5IIs doesn't have an AA filter, and so can get a slightly higher resolution of detail than the K-30.

K-30 is a great camera and now a great deal given its low price. It replaced my K-01, which has same image quality, so I can be more comfortable attaching larger and heavier lenses and use its high burst rate for action or wildlife photography.

That's rite forgot no aa filter thx

mirror protects the sensor rite?

Mirror is to reflect image from the lens up to your viewfinder. It's too fragile to be of any protection.

against dust

Dust will still get on the sensor despite the mirror's presence. When that happens, you can go through camera's menu to use camera's dust removal feature, or lift up the mirror with the sensor cleaning feature so you can blow filtered air on the sensor with a rocket blower.

big time .you know that's all I ever had to do with my 10d.never had to wetclean once. And it seem as if this cleaning motor of the k-30 is stronger
