I thought we had, but can't remember or find the answer around here. ;-)

What explains their different performance in dxomark tests for noise, and dynamic between D7100, and D5300 slight though it may be?
It looks like a Sony in external design, and also re DxO measurements. But the people that usually disassemble cameras have not done it yet. More on that here

Sony or Toshiba. Verdict is still out. I suspect the sensors have a minor tweak or two over the D7100. This could be by Nikon design.

Hi Jim.

Here is what Thom had to say in his review: "the data paths to the pins seem more Sony-like than Toshiba-like. Either Sony's got a new packaging process, or this sensor was fabbed by someone else using what looks to be Sony chip details. It really doesn't matter much, as the sensor is performing as well, if not better, than the other 24mp DX sensors Nikon has used (I see less deep low level banding than the Toshiba sensors, for example)." Others seem to agree.

Which still leaves it pretty much up in the air. Maybe even a 3rd party. The 24 mp sensor is now becoming "a standard" of sorts and is used in many cameras. So . . . . . . . . .

There is probably some cross licensing going on behind the scenes too...

It may be a Sony designed sensor made by Toshiba exclusivley for this Nikon camera.....
