Hi folks, has anyone tried to fit a Leitz 35 mm Summicron Type 3 (the last non-aspherical version from about 2001) in the Fuji M-mount adapter? The official list states no, but several contributors in this forum have said some other lenses that were not supposed to fit were fine. Can anyone try and let me know? Thanks!

I have the Fuji M adapter for X Mount. Although I am now using three lenses with it, I got it just for use with my last non-aspheric version which is 4th version (Bokeh King). I would bet all versions dating back to the 8-element will fit.

The M- Fuji adapter comes with a measuring device in the box that makes it quick to ascertain whether the lens will fit the adapter. So I'd say go for it.

Thank you! Just what I needed to know. And you mentioned the last non-aspheric version: that is what I have. I thought it was the 3rd version of the 35, but as you say. possibly it was the 4. I bought it in 2001 or 2002, just as it was being discontinued.

There are four versions and then the Aspheric. I had the first- the 8 element. Mine was black and as the internet was kicking into gear, I learned it was very collectible. I sold it it allowing me to purchase a 35 Summilux and and the Aspheric! I felt like I won the lottery. I would guess that was in about '97 that I did this.

Anyway, the first version Summicron was a nice lens but lower in contrast. I got a chance to play with the fourth version and found that results wide-open were fine for my use. I eventually sold the other two lenses and am very happy with the version 4.

8-element Summicron with adapter "eyes"

Sorry for the late reply. I had a goggle-eye version of the 8-element Summicron for many years, which I used it with a Leica M3. Both are now gone, but both served me well for 20 years. Even after I bought the much newer Type 4 Summicron, I continued to use this older 8-element version. Amazing optical and mechanical product. Note the Canadian production. Happy 2014.

I screwed up! I have the Fuji adapter X to M mount. When I answered this question last month, I was using my version 4 Summicron with the Fuji adapter and with good results on my X E2. That is because I didn't try to focus out to infinity! Using that lens, I almost always shoot close in and f2 to f4.

Last week, with nothing to do, I focused the lens on a landscape and realized the problem. My apologies to Kodachromeguy and anyone else who read this and was deceived that version 4 would work with the Fuji adapter.

If anyone seeing this knows which Brand X adapter will work, please enlighten us.

Thanks for checking again and warning about the Type 4 Summicron. So the problem is the rear element protrudes too far back when focused to infinity? In that case, any one of the non-electronic adapters should work. From what I have seen, they range from inexpensive units from China to mid-price ones like the Metabones, to the premium Novoflex adapters. Do any readers have a suggestion?
