SD9 vs. 10D?

Another thing that you forgot on your list - probably because you
havent had a chance to try it - is the software. Made by Foveon -
You're right, I've never used the SD9 software - but I've read that it's great.

I HAVE used the Canon software and it is a g*ddamn joke. What a piece of sh1t. I bought Capture One LE which is fantastic but cost me an extra $100.

Canon makes a great camera, but should leave the software up to somebody better.

You have to understand that our prorities are different from yours.
When you come over and preach Canon, it is like a vegetarian going
into the Lion's den and telling him how bad it is to eat meat
(except the lion has the claws in this case). Get the lion angry
and he will eat you!
I'm only answering OP in this case.. I'm not coming over to the lion's den. I come to this forum for fun and entertainment. Canon gets boring; naturally it's a much larger group which is somehow less interesting.

I understand fully that people have different priorities. That's why I say that if you want great 3Mp images and are willing to sacrifice a few things in an effort to acheive that, then the SD9 may be a good fit for you.

And my wife is a strict vegetarian (not quite vegan though) and I'm a full on meat-uh-tarian; we get along just fine, actually great!

i have to disagree with you on 4 items: low noise, focus speed, low
light capability and price. please see pop photography june issue.
just my 10cents opinion.
OK. You can choose to trust Pop Photography if you like; personally I value Phil Askey's and my own experience and opinion the most.

Stephen,

Do you find that your wife has more energy than you?:Þ Is it easier for her to wake in the morning? Does she seem like the Energizer bunny around the home? smiles sweetly

MY girlfriend just became vegetarian :) One more thing we have in common:)

But not because she's a veg. She's got a way different personality and does what makes her happy. I do what makes me happy and when it comes to food that means eating bloody red meat.

They have. We Canon compact shooters have been using alternate software for years. I normally use "Cam4You", a nice freeware program by Hans-David Alkenius.

People complain about Nikon because the software is good, but you have to pay an extra $130 for it.

People complain about Canon because the software is free, but sucks.

People complain about Sigma, because the software doesn't handle saturation gracefully and noise reduction leaves room for improvement.

From this, we can draw no conclusions about cameras, but we can comclude that people simply like to complain a lot.

well my sigma camera generally focuses real fast but sometimes it is like shooting a howitzer - over/under/over/under and sometimes you miss!
I shot the 10d with the 100-400 canan af is definitely superior!!!

Joe you seem quite knowledgable in all things camera - have you had a chance to try the SD9 software? I would be very interested in your reaction to it in comparison if you have. I have been doing color correction for many years. And I started using it a month or so ago , I had heard it was good , but I was really surprised by just how good - it just has extraordinary tonal control more than any other thing . Saturation has never been a problem at all - I always try to avoid it in general when using photoshop anyway because of what it does to the tonality of an image - but I have generally found it to be very good when I use it in Photo Pro. But contol over Noise reduction is another thing and it not adressed at all in the software interface - I think that it is one of the next frontiers for the software and it it is something that it would be great to adress as soon as possible.

Also I am a big user of the Canon G2 - But I am on a Mac do you know of any good alternative softwares for it thanks BiLLS

Hi Steve - again! You just don't give up, do you. Still on the same old tack that you are superior to all of us poor SD9 users because you chose a Canon.

As a Professional oif many years experience and someone whose quality standards have gained the highest reputation, I would just point out that I chose the SD9 because of its superiority in image quality above all the other offerings, after careful testing of what they could produce, not just listening to heresay and verbal claims.

If you are happy with your Canon, then that is fine - for you. I have owned and used Canon film cameras for years and still have an excellent old ftb. However, don't try to tell me that I should have chosen digitally what suits you - it didn't, whereas the SD9 did.

It is very simple. Go and use your camera and enjoy it. I am producing some great quality that can happily be displayed on the gallery wall alongside my 5X4 work. I have clients coming for tuition on conventional and digital imaging, via digital cameras and film neg scans and on computing. When I show them comparison prints (NOT just images onscreen!) then show them comments by people like you, they just cannot believe that there are people like you still trying to belittle the SD9's build and the high quality that the SD9 can produce - in the right hands!

Just face up to it and realise that whatever you think, we think differently. I really wish you well but please do not keep on trying to tell us that we are somehow inferior to you and that you know best about what we need. Believe what YOU like and give us credit for knowing what we prefer - that's a good chap!

Where did I claim superiority? I think all along I've stated that I have my opinion as does everyone else; that the SD9 wasn't my choice but it's been a happy choice for some others. Why are you attacking me; I don't see where I threatened you?

I'll keep posting whatever I want here, thank you very much. When someone posts a question like the OP of this thread, I'm going to answer, no matter what forum it's on. The OP's question applied DIRECTLY TO ME.

Blah.. ugly stuff.

You buy a system for the lenses not the body. Bodys come and go but lenses stay.
Hi! I'm fairly new to the DSLR world, but have been doing lots of
homework the past week. I'm on the fence between the SD9 or the
Canon 10D. I've read a lot of the forum postings, reviews and
spent about 15min on the phone earlier with Sigma. Just thought
I'd see if anyone recently went through this process as well and
what was the final selling point. Thanks!

Good rulers stay also. I have though about starting a "rent-a-ruler" business. My ruler would have two axes like an "x" going from front to back across the center. My only problem is that there is a rumor going around that one camera vendor is shipping their DSLR's with the "ruler of your choice - color versus black and white; english versus metric". I will have to ugrade my product before it is even out and drop the price.

Good Shooting and don't lose any of those red and blue filters. At least if you lose a green one, there is an extra!!! You wouldn't believe..there was a 10D guy looking all over the ground. I said "what are you looking for" and he said "I lost one of my pixel covers - a blue one!" All his pictures were blue-deficient.

When are we going to see some 10d images from you? Oops what is that link below...I will check it out...
