You're all beautiful and you all deserve new cameras from Santa.

Since I already got myself the A7 kit with FE55/1.8Z on top I guess I'd ask for the 70-200/4 to go with it. But since it's not out yet and Santa says I have to pick something available by 24 Dec, I'll go with an OMD EM1 with 12-40/2.8 lens as I could never personally justify the cost of that kit to myself.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year back at ya'.

As for the thread derailment up there, I just want to say hang in there. I had a massive, life-altering (nearly ending) event a few years ago but managed to recover pretty well, come back and am doing pretty well. So hang in there. Oh, and I can't count the number of times I've seen people with tattoos, or dreads, or leather jackets, or unique perspectives or unique personalities get hired for important jobs because they were exceptionally skilled and approached and thought in ways than the majority of people could not.

But to the question. I'm torn between something a used, Mk I Canon EOS 5D and dusting off my lenses (I have 35mm SLRs), or going with a Fuji X-E1 with the thought that'd I'd carry it more often.
Do you shoot film slr's in that case you would probably love the fujfilm.

Yes, but I haven't used them a great deal in a while. And I'm thinking I would like the Fuji, especially as I really liked the company's color film (and Ilford's B&W).

For me it'd be the last three years I spent trying to make ignorant walmart-grade customers commit to paying for the things they want.
Lose the dreadlocks and the sarcasm, then perhaps the walmart shoppers would take you seriously. I know I would not let you close to my kid and that is not being sarcastic. The truth will set you free and the truth is looking like a professional will cause people to treat you like one.
to help me make money in this totally fäking braindead industry.
People can feel this attitude towards your work, perhaps time to do something else, no one likes a cynic.

People will tolerate your street hobbo looks and bad attitude and actually pay you money if you the the best photographers they have ever seen, but I am not seeing it.

I can't count the times I have seen the guy with the tattoos, black leather motorcycle jacket and the bad attitude go for an interview and not get the job even though he is qualified.
Had a couple drinks at a Christmas party last night and apparently had a little public vent here afterwards. Probably shouldn't have done, good intentions and all but seriously what excuse does that give you to throw around such blind judgement and personal attacks?
Ignorant walmart-grade customers. Hmm, who is being judgemental? It is as if you think you are above all the people who shop at Walmart which is a huge percentage of people in the US. Put this post on the front door of your business and see how many walmart shoppers you attract... or offended with your judgmental attitude towards them.

You then mock our brain dead industry.

It sounded like you were having problems in the business. I offered some real advise, look professional if you want to make the big bucks and lose the attitude towards your customers.

If you don't want to do that then nothing will change.

But if you are not having problems and are doing great, then continue down your path and ignore my suggestion. My comment was if you are having problems, perhaps it is not the ignorant walmart shoppers, perhaps it is you.

Merry Christmas to all the ignorant walmart shoppers and to everyone in our brain dead industry.
If you could do me a favour, next time, before you open your face to spew your profound lifeexperience all over everybody please wander off.

I would get a pair of D4S bodies which are not out yet. But In my fantasy, it has two XQD slots and improved low light specs with even better battery life.

That's exactly the problem: So many people are locked in the Walmart mentality here. It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be cheap. Borderline disposable. BTW I never said these are my customers, why would I be frustrated with the clients I DO have? This is an observation on the state of the average North American consumer.

The braindead state of the portrait "industry" in general these days. Thanks to 50,000 people with Rebels and D5100s selling portrait sessions on Kijiji for $14, complete with the 80 full-res jpegs they rattled off in Auto, the market is so watered down that the Walmart-minded masses don't see any value in it anymore — and in most situations, there isn't any. So when these customers come around, see a style they like, see quality, smile throughout their consult, tell you they want to go ahead with a portrait session or wedding or whatever...they still refuse to pay what it's worth, if at all. Every shot could be lit by angels and printed on gold but some people just cannot see value in a photographer's time anymore.

Again, not my customers. And what does it matter what I look like, I stand BEHIND the camera. I could be wearing a duck suit and a tinfoil top hat, it's not going to affect my photography — if only making it easier to get smiles on cue. No, if you want to make big bucks you present your clients with big value, knowledge, skill and top-of-the-line equipment and prints.

Or perhaps it's the weight of a corporation imploding on one man who's just trying to keep his baby fed.

Wonder off what, I'm wondering?
