Would you like a full case for the Fuji X-E1/X-E2?

As I said in an earlier message: look for the Kenji cases on eBay. Very similar to the Luigi case, but a noticeably better price and the leatherworking and finish appears to be a close match for the Luigi case. Kenji will do "custom" mods so talk to him about the 'hood' you want - and you get to choose the leather and colour too :-).

First thing I'd do back in the early '70's was to toss out the top half of those "full" cases. Never wanted a full case, wouldn't use a full case, have no interest in a full case.

In order to deliver access to the rear of the camera whilst shooting you would need a body 'structure' which is - essentially - that of most half-cases. So what you are actually looking for is a half-case which has a hood. There are already several such cases around; some better than others. Here's one with the option to remove the hood.

Thanks. I did see that one on Ebay and elsewhere. So far the best one I have seen is from Luigi in Italy. It actually allows usage of the camera and all functions without removing the outer (front) section. When unsnapped it simply hangs below the half case, unless the decision is made to remove it. I just can't spend $638.00 for a case.
Here's another option for $99. The full case version with removable top is $30 more.

Hey, It is already four months or more gone by since this query kicked off and here we are all still floundering around looking for that case with the 'mosteverbestlooksdesignfunctionever' for the X-E1/2 ?? Amazing that designers are not listening to the punters out there.

I quite like the idea of a full case for protection in the boot of the car but are they a liability strolling around, with a giant, [relatively], cows tongue flapping below the camera around your gentlemen's parts, it does not exactly go unnoticed. So I am finally wanting a half case with a removable protective flap over the LCD; not too much of a pain to remove or store.

I have been dribbling over the finish of the aged brown Kaza finishes which are to my taste, along with the Luigi version, but at €280 upwards depending on the options for the X-E1 that would buy a lot of Newcastle Browns. (A British beer).

I think I have the perfect solution in the Angelo Pelle [of Italy naturally], as it looks indistinguishable form the Luigi version but is on offer at the moment for just €159 still steep for me but the quality is superb and has a hand grip plus strap along with an LCD removable flap.

Nothing in life is perfect though is it? Doesn't have a battery/SD access flap. I have emailed to ask if they can punch a hole in the bottom (or an access flap) so will wait for the response. I particularly like that the leather goes across the top of the LCD instead of leaving it completely open at the back.

There is VERY clever marketing to be aware of, looking at the high end cases around the web they seem to all use clever low key saturated lighting for the product shots in the 'Karsh' manner, I am not sure in the glare of daylight what the effect looks like.

Interestingly, they state the X-E1 case will not fit the X-E2 body which makes sense but many sell one case for both. They also say the cases are made to fit 'like a glove' Hmmm.

vis. '

'The case is adjusted to fit like a glove to the camera body. The case also features a grip on the front part to aid ergonomical (sic.) camera handling. A removable LCD protector has been included too.'

Looking also at the straps they have, they are gorgeous GORGEOUS... I might be tempted although it would make the camera look eminently snatch-able in dodgy places.

I must quickly add I have nothing to do with the company and usually shun Italy for mail order after packages were tampered with in the post , but I might give this a shot.

Bon chance mon amis. Regards, Brian.

If any type of case screamed I have a camera, this is the type.

Not convient and a bit clunky to work with. No padding compared to even a small Think Tank Holster that would do the same job ALOT better. I would get the TT holster 10 which should still be the smallest case.

Know what else screams "I have a camera"? Your camera.

So unless you only take photos at home, people know you have a camera.

Have you seen this case?

For the price it is surprisingly nice. I have one and would highly recommend it. The only down side is there is not direct access to the battery/card slot on the bottom of the camera, you have to remove the case to get that access.

Yes you are both right, trying to be inconspicuous, which bothers me a lot, with a £100+ case on the camera is not the way to go. I am just gambling on a mugger after something to snatch for a quick fix will not know this, don't forget non photographic nerds, unlike us, aren't to know the value of these things? So seeing the old looking (I have the silver version), camera and 'old fashioned leather' case I am gambling will pass and go for a nice glossy Nikanon with all the bells and whistles. Theory's theory's eh?

The point is well made 'I have a camera' but I still maintain not so much as the original poster with the cows tongue flapping down.

The other point of no padding is also true although it has a suede leather interior. I take the view that when the gear is in the camera bag (another gruelling search there just finished with an insert to fit a Billingham, from China), it is well padded but the camera itself in the hand is best used naked. [The camera, not me]. unless you wrap it in cotton wool it will be open to small scrapes, hence some sort of cladding. A lot of cow wrapped around a lot of the body [camera] is as good as I need, the big trade off is more bulk but that is not going to ruin my day, a scratch is. Cameras don't get scratched in storage, they get scratched in use.

I'm sorry but walking around with a giant holster on the hip doesn't scream 'I've got a camera, or worse still 'I am part of a SWAT team'? not for me, i'm British, stiff upper lip chaps. I'll take the cow any day. Regards, Brian.

To answer the OPs question: indeed I would.

I fall within the camp of liking full cases quite a lot, particularly for the X-E1. For me (and I know this is purely subjective):

* I enjoy having the camera around my neck (and not some bag with the camera in it), and the thing I grab when I see a picture in my head is actually the camera (and not the bag, flap, zip, whatever...). Also, I frequently carry a backpack, so another bag is usually not very convenient.

* That being said, with the extended hikes and city walks I take, I want my camera to be protected (I can't help but scratch my head about all the people running around with their $$$ Canikons fully exposed to the environment (sometimes even without hood/ lenscap)).

Hence the full case - fits my bill nicely. Plus, it nicely adds to the cool looks of the X-E1, imho. And since my biggest lens is the XF18-55 (and the 14 and 35 are smaller and thus also fit the case) the lens issue is also not a problem for me.

Anyway... I'm currently using a cheapish third party case off ebay - would buy a genuine Fuji case in an instant!

I purchased a used Sony RX-1 with a full case. While the full case looked fine, I immediately realized removed the front portion was a burden not a benefit. After I removed it from the camera I had to hold the front portion or set it somewhere. I then removed the front portion and put it in my closet where it is to untouched today and left the half case on the camera. With the half case, I could access the battery and memory card compartment and use the tripod mount. It does not appear that you can access either the battery or memory card compartment or use the tripod mount with the photos you posted. Personally I do not find a case like that acceptable. If you want a case, I suggest that you look for a half or three quarter case where you can access all the important buttons and components without removing any portion of the case.

The cameras may be different but the issues are exactly the same. One point to avoid is a case which screw into to the tripod mount in the camera where screw does not have a tripod mount. If you ever use a tripod, it is a pain to remove the case, find a place for the case and then mount your camera, and then after you are done with the tripod, get the case, and then place the case on the camera.

Good luck.

(Please excuse me if this question was asked four months ago.)

Does the front of a full case provide protection for the X-E1 and X-E2 during a light to moderate rain? Also, does covering the battery/memory compartment provide significant/important protection to rain. (Some cases do this.)

I am about to buy a couple of cases or they may not get here (from China) before I leave for a trip (to China). I am currently thinking of the TP. Any thoughts?

Another question: Opinions on the Gariz (Korean-made) cases with the extension on the bottom? It looks handy for leaving a tripod mounting plate on the bottom yet having access to the battery. Yes?

Hi all, Just a follow up. I emailed Angelo-Pelle about the possibility of a opening flap at the bottom. His shouted his reply >

'HELLO NOT SINCE THIS ONE IS HANDSTITCHED AND SO ITS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE THIS CUTTING AT THE EDGE WILL CUT THREAD (THE BATTERY DEPARTMENT IS ON THE EDGE OF CAMERA)REGARDS ANGELO'

Fair enough so I went ahead and ordered the 'Foxy brown' case. It fits well and that much cow around the body gives a great sense of security as I notice I have marked it up a bit already. I'm not too worried about that as it adds to the old retro worn look.

The controls are all accessible around the body except that the right MENU OK (3 o'clock) dial press is sometimes a fiddle.

I like this case a lot and can recommend it.

Here are some images of how the finish looks in daylight

Very even stitching. Excuse the cats' hairs on the viewfinder; oh, and the rubber buffers [which are meant to stop chair legs scraping], on the sides to stop the strap rings marking the body.

There is a tripod screw adapter supplied for security, although the case fits tightly it takes no time to slip it off for a battery change etc.
