I'm thinking of changing my Sony A77 for a A99 but Sony does not offer too many FF lenses.

The lenses I use with my A77 are:

Standard Sony 16-50 mm zoom

Zeiss 1.4/ 85 mm

Samyang 8mm fisheye

I wonder how these lenses perform on the A99?

E.g, If I use the 85mm in the crop mode on the A99, would that give me the exact same FOV?

I guess the 8mm fisheye woukd be practically useless?

Thanks for some feedback

There are many Minolta and Konica-Minolta lenses, the vast majority being FF. That's a major reason I chose Sony instead of sticking with Nikon when I move FF.

The 85mm f/1.4 is FF. If you force the A99 to crop you'll only get 11mp photos which would otherwise be identical to using it on an APS-C camera (DOF, FOV, etc), so effectively it's 127mm. If you use it FF, you'll get closer to the subject, so get the FF's wonderful shallower DOF, plus get the full 24mp.

What are you looking for that they don't offer?

The Zeiss 85mm is FF. If you use it in crop mode you'll get the same reach as on your A77, but at a lower resolution.

The 16-50mm can only be used in crop mode, so you won't be able to use the A99's full resolution with it. The Zeiss 24-75mm f/2.8 on the A99 will give you the same view as the 16-50mm does on your A77.

For an idea of the lenses available check this out:

There is a crop mode in the A99, which emulates APS-C sensor by leaving out pixels. The EVF acts normally and you won't see any difference, besides the same cropping as your crop camera. So you get with the A99 practically a full frame camera with 24mp, plus a aps-c camera with 10,5mp. Your fisheye is not useless then.

I am thinking about to buy an A99 too.
