Olympus 75mm for $699 on BestBuy.com right now

Best buy indeed.

Wow that's an excellent deal...i originally bought it from B&H for $899...then it dropped to $799 on Black Friday. Since I bought it a week before Black Friday, B&H agreed to do a price match and I got a $100 credit. Now this...ugh!

Tempting. I have the panasonic 35-100mm f2.8.
Not sure if i should make the plunge and what it would give me at f1.8 75mm vs f2.8 75mm

Just Do It :)

Great, over here in Europe it's not to be had for less than about EUR 950, and BestBuy don't ship to Europe and don't even accept non-American credit cards. :-/ Thus the only way for us stuck on this side of the big pond would be to resort to letting a freight forwarder order directly, but that incurs extra costs (in addition to customs and tax) and a delay which is likely to miss the deal. Drat.

I have the 35-100/f2 for Four Thirds that I use on my EM-1 with an adapter. I wonder if this would be a wise pickup or since I already have that kind of reach to pass..

Simple. It buys you an extra 1 1/3 stops of light, in smaller package, with better image quality. The real question is, based on your intended use, is it bright enough to keep a shutter speed of around 1/150 s in order for movement to not be an issue, since you lose the Power O.I.S?

Also, do you have an extra $700 (plus tax) just lying around? If not, then I'd pass. If you do, I'd still consider whether you really need the lens or not, based on the subjects you shoot.

:-D

correct!

I (situated in Germany) got a great deal this August from a store in New York via Ebay. The deal included shipping and taxes and in the end I paid 830€ for the black 75mm.

Wow, when I went to check this, I saw that they also had the new oly 12-40 for $799. Unfortunately, that deal is sold out or I would've jumped right on it.

I will never ever buy from any company that will not accept ALL major credit cards regardless the country of issue. If I cannot rely on my credit card being accepted wherever I travel having a credit card is useless. Americans should really develop the same attitude: please refuse to deal with companies that do not accept some credit cards because when you travel you want to be sure that you can pay with your non-local credit card as well!

Regarding the actual deal, that must be tempting as indeed here in Europe the same lens is way more expensive (much more than US price + import duty + VAT). Companies play all sorts of tricks to try to maximize their profit globally. It's not just Olympus, and it's not just in electronics either. Even IKEA prices vary from country to country and if you live close to the border you have to check the price of each item to decide where you should buy which item...

Das Niveau erreicht man bei polnischen Anbietern auch (siehe Geizhals.AT), aber das BestBuy-Angebot hätte das (incl. Versand, Zoll, EUSt.) noch mal deutlich unterboten.

Both are sold out.
