What is your biggest disappointment about GX7?

I follow the Sony threads since I'm interested in the new A7. There seems to be a lot of disappointment in the cameras. But I thought it's an interesting thread so here we go. I personally love the GX7 and only have a few complaints and they're minor. The EVF takes a fraction of a second to turn on when your eye makes contact with the viewfinder so if you're shooting quickly you have to hesitate. Also I hate that they didn't include auto ISO. I know a lot of people complain about the grip and the EVF size but I like both of them. Also I guess you can add what you like which for me is just about everything. I'm going to do one of these for the GM1 too. Should be interesting.

I'm not disappointed

Just that the design doesn't sing to me

The grip is kind of large for the camera

the body looks just like a brick with a swollen cheek

It may be the best Pana design IMHO by far (or was it the GM1?) but still lacks character

So not disappointed, just complacent to it for Oly offers better bodies

Cheers, ;-)

I'm actually quite happy with mine. No camera is perfect, and I have no major or significant issues with it. The IQ is really excellent - rivals my E-M5. With the integrated EVF I have a great walkabout camera.

caver3d: I thought you were going to say that you were disappointed you didn't have one, as you did in the parallel thread on the GM1!. So I will be the first to say it. Don't have it yet, darn it. Will enjoy it and the GX7 in due course.

I believe the GX-7 has Auto ISO, just not in manual mode.

Coming from a Lumix G3, I was vibed for the GX7. Then I looked into the viewfinder. It seemed so small and far away compared to the G3. I then looked into the OMD EM-1 and I was sold. I also found the grip too insubstantial for my larger hands. The grip on the EM-1 is great. I wanted something more pro and I don't do video.

Ha,ha! My disappointment is the lack of Panny's signature aticulated screen. That's enough to nail me to the G6 which I will be buying (ALONG WITH THE GM1!!!) in the next four to five weeks. LOL.

Cheers, geoff

Mic port and weather sealing. But mostly mic port.

Controls :

When looking at it I felt all the dials and buttons were rather well placed for one handed and quick, efficient operations. When actually picking it up and trying it I found the dials to have a completely crappy feeling. The mode dial for example, which could have been operated by one finger only had it had a proper feeling / detent mechanism, is in fact hard to use this way (and the ON/OFF button gets in the way). The back dial feels like a fisher price toy. The front dial is the only one that isn't too bad, but I've seen a lot better. Buttons are just OK, I think they lack positiveness but it's nowhere near as bad as the OM-D E-M5.

The whole auto-ISO fiasco :

No control over the minimum shutter speed and lack of auto ISO + exp. comp. in M mode in 2013. Enough said, it's daft.

I'm disappointed that GX7 still exists when E-M1 has been shipped for few weeks already.

Don't own it.

write or/and call panasonic to complain about this missing feature. i have.

Sorry to be boring - but it's the lack of auto-iso in manual. A really stupid decision by Panasonic.

Apart from that I like my GX7 a lot.

If I was aware of a suitable email address, that wasn't going to get lost in a low-level support centre I would do just that. Do you know of an email address where somebody in a suitable position might actually get to read it?

Do they have a "professional services" division, like Canon/Nikon? Failing that, try searching for a board level member's email address (a friend of mine who was caught in a support trap once couriered a faulty piece of equipment to the home address of a certain company's CEO, which he managed to track down, along with a letter of all the failings he had experienced. Funnily enough he got a replacement upgrade and a personal phone call apology from his PA. it's a risky gambit though.)

Far from 'a really stupid decision', it is just 'a decision'. Panasonic decided that M means M!

I always thought it was annoying that my Canon 7D automatically transfers whatever ISO setting I adopt across all of P, A, S, and M. I never thought it was stupid, it just didn't suit me.
