So much for a lighter system

Yes its true, I went with Fuji for a lighter system. I need one too, damage to lower back and hips from a previous accident makes carrying more than 1.5 kg in a shoulder bag or 8kg in a rucksack painful after a couple of hours.

The Fujis were great. Initially. Then I realised I was saving so much weight I could take two bodies to reduce lens changes. Hell, only an extra 400g. Then a tablet, well need something to do on the train, and its only 280g. And then I found this amazingly compact tripod that fits IN my rucksack and works really well with the Fujis...

Ok its 1.14kg, but nothing much lighter works that well anyway. And it does work. Really well actually (and they are a lot cheaper than in this review, around £100 now).

Oh darn, with the waterproofs and other odds and ends I am back up to the 8kg mark again.

On the upside, I have a lot more stuff with me than before and a much smaller rucksack. I guess I just like going for the max.

But it is nice to go out some days with just the Xpro1 and 23mm.

I went with a Mefoto Roadtrip which seems to get better reviews (was actually suggested in one of the Amazon reviews.) Don't carry two ILC bodies, but the X100s instead. Might replace it with the RX1, but I'm still trying to figure the Sony out (it is frustrating in only a way Sony knows how to make frustrating.)

Agree! Which means that you get much more opportunities more often Now i always have my light samyang 8mm and I do get interesting shots with it same with the small CV15

You won't want to add anything to it even if you have the option. Or you could just add one to your fuji bag….

Never happened to me personally... ;-)

I'm fighting GAS to.

Wanting bad!

The X-E2 plus 35mm f1.4 lens.

Which leaves me with my X-E1 to convert to IR. Trouble is I have a Pany GX1 already converted! Going great but the rational is that I can share lens systems if I am all Fuji.

I am trying to stick with my original plan of waiting for the XPro-2 but who knows when what etc. I figure an update in firmware for the X-E1 with regard to auto iso would hold me over so I hope for a credible rumor or two soon.

Meanwhile I just bought a Fuji Flash and off brand Canon cord and an off brand grip/plate for the X-E1. This may also hold me over until the new year!

Regards - Brian aka FLBRIT (Florida Brit) :-D

ps Very aware that this is not a world class problem etc etc and I am lucky to have a great selection of gear. However!

It does take some discipline to maintain the weight savings. Depends what's important to a shooter.

The heaviest I carry is an XE1 + 18-55. I consider that the max I'm willing to lug around. Ruled out the 23 and fortunately, I don't shoot long. That's moving from a D80 to a D800. The first day I received it I knew it was not going to last long (3weeks) and a lighter system was in my cards.

I actually had the weight problem whipped for awhile! I let my wife carry all my equipment. My second wife . . . :)

Personally I like to minimize my size and weight so for the most part, I ditched the camera bag. I usually carry an X100, WLC and a Manfrotto pocket tripod (MP3-001) that I often leave attached to the base of the camera. I figure that when traveling for leisure, the less I have, the easier it is to take photos. Sometimes I'll swap my X100 + WLC for my XP1 + 18mm & 35mm. Eventually I'll pick up the 23 for the XP1 and that will just about cover everything I need from a travel camera.

Always carry multiple cameras. One film one digital, try to keep it as light as possible. When I carry my 645 Pentax I carry a Samsung TL500 (nice P&S), when I carry my Canon Elan 7NE I carry the 5d (interchangeable lenses).

That is why I am awaiting the arrival of my X-E2 (mail from Adorama to Korea takes forever!), I have already received the 14mm and the MD mount adapter, now I will have a digital that I can carry with my Minolta X-570, or X-500 and interchange lenses.
