Hi,

most of the questions about the RX10 are covered already by both reviews and feedback/input from people who got their RX10 over the last days since delivery started.

What I would like to know is how the battery of the RX10 does because everything is now motor driven, the lens is heavier/bulkier so for focussing/zooming probably more power consumption and finally the RX10 has the same battery as the RX100I/II. So in real life for how long does the battery last according to user experiences? And for how many shots?

I'd real like to get feedback for both items separately because on my A99 I made the experience that the power drop is much more related to the actual time of usage (which is not very impressive) than to the number of shots taken (which can easily surpass the informed standard numbers as long as the images are taken in faster sequence, for example in sports events).

Thanks in advance.

Ok, thanks for that. This totally escaped my attention since most comparisons were made with the RX100I/II. Well, with less weight and bulk constraints than those and at the same time higher power consumption it's a reasonable decision.

Not owning a NEX, how much higher is the capacity of these batteries? Is the (USB) charger the same as the RX100I/II anyhow? Or is it different?

It'll be very intersting to see how the battery does, as it is the same as for my SLT-A55, in which a Sony original last me between 200 and 400 shots, depending on the lens I am using.

My first day out with it, the new battery was charging, and a had a battery with several full cycles, put 300 shots and a couple small video clips, and it never went below 60%..

Comments as to how you use it are correct.. I'm not believing 2hrs of video on a battery. experience on a nex shows me an hour is what you can count on. Maybe two hours is a real number, but I'm not going to test that now.

I find myself turning the rx10 off, since I have the EV on auto, and while walking, it may spend time switching from ev to lcd, or just want to stay on ev and not go to sleep.

Generally consumption seems similar to the nex. how you use the lcd and the zoomm are boing to make a difference as well.. it's a 1ah battery.

In camera charging has worked so far with all of my batteries, but I usually routinely swap a fresh into the body, and charge on the external. While I didnt take as many pictures in the same period of time yesterday, as I did with the pilot run through the park, I was on the same battery from 9 to 3 with about 100 stills and a minute or so of video and down in the 80's FWIW.

Hi,

thanks for the feedback. I guess it will need some more time of actual user experience for finding out if or how much in practice we'll have to expect differences form the measured standards in battery capacity.

Mike: When EVF and/or back LCD remain switched on on the RX10 then Sony may have forgotten the achievements on other cameras (like the A99) where the power consumption can be reduced/controlled twisting the LCD inwards and then the EVF will switch off shortly after removing the eye from the eyecup. Perhaps this works well on my A99 because the mounted lenses make pointing it downwards so normally no other obstruction of the EVF (like one's body) which may avoid the switch off.

Took it out cross country skiing today. 160 shots. -6 deg C when I started, -4 deg C when I finished. The camera was exposed to the cold (actually perfect for X/C skiing) the whole time (clipped to a backpack strap, not in a case). I turned it off when done taking pics to clip it back to my strap. Outside for 3 hours. Still at 76% when I finished. Just picking the selects in Lightroom now.

Thanks for the input. So it seems that the combination camera-battery is well matched and with one spare one should be ready to go for a day's shooting.

Hi Mike,

this all is usefull input because I'm still in the decision process IF the RX10 is for me and IF it is for now (before XM). Since neither the batteries of my A99 nor of my RX100 will serve as spare, I need to know which package to get.
