So... who wants one? Yay or Nay?

Nay, no bulb.

I am a sex object.
Everytime I ask girls for sex they object.

After my g3 loses its smell of new, and when i feel like upgrading i'll most probably go for sony's 717 upgrade

If someone was looking for their first prosumer model than sure... but anyone who has a G3 wouldn't see anything new from this model besides perhaps the ability to get slightly better pictures when you go above 8x10.

Hmm... there's nothing to support that wish.

But is it the CMOS you want, or just more pixels?
I am waiting for the G6 with the 6mp CMOS. I am betting that Canon
will win the race to be the first company to put a CMOS chip in a
prosumer camera.

Heheheh... good for you. :-)

Although there are threads saying that it may not be what some users are expecting.

We will have to see.

For some folks, isn't that kind of the point? :-)

I don't understand the tech-heads on here who are desperate to trade up up every time a new and 'better' camera comes out. The pace of development means that you are likely to face a lot of disappointment unless you are willling to upgrade every six months, and you never really get to know your camera. I bought a G2 six months back (even though I knew G3 was on the way). I got a good deal, had the camera when I needed it, and have been happy with it since.

On second thoughts, strike the above. I want it. I want it badly.

As a G1 owner, Yay. I'm considering the G5, a nice upgrade from the G1 regardless of the shock and horror y'all have expressed. Or perhaps the Nikon 5400 if the test results look good. Do I want 28mm on the short end or 140mm on the long end? Decisions, decisions. I'm in no hurry.

Uly,

These are my thoughts on upgrading from my trusty yet flawed S45:

You've said yourself that the V1 is a first generation model, and so it will have problems. IMHO the battery is pathetic, but if Phil thinks noise is ok I'll still get one.

Others have pointed out the ignominy of the 5400 not having an AF assist light- and it has to be said, if you want an F2.8 lens, you may aswell get it on a Powershot S400.

Which brings me to the G5. It is called the G5 because I think Canon want us to think for them it's a big step; that is, I don't think they'll be improving on it for a while and I DO think the G3 was a stop-gap.. The chip is in a tried and tested body (who ever looks through the viewfinder anyway?) running through the tried and tested Digic processer. With the added bonus of dirt cheap memory, surely it is the winner in this group?

Best wishes.
