I don't like the pose, particularly with the hands off screen. It makes me think that you had to tie him down at the wrists to get the shot. I must admit I have a problem with croppings where it looks like the photographer didn't properly frame the subject, and little bits of the subject are off screen. Outside of the pose, I do like the expression on the face.

In terms of background, you might want to consider using a different color background, since his hair blends in with the background on my laptop screen. I'm sure if you printed it out, you would see different colors, but often times subtle color variations don't show up as well on online postings, since most of use don't use things like spyder that advertises here to color balance the monitor.

Alcineia,

I was wondering when and if you were going to return to the forum:) Welcome back:)

He is such a cutie:)

His expression is great and the lighting looks great on the face, but the rest seems to blend with the background a little too much... Dark backgrounds need to be lit somehow :)

Anyhow, WELCOME back:)

Alcineia,

I like it, the lighting is nice. But, the way his arms are cropped I find disturbing. I also like the way his pants sort-of fade to black as you get lower in the frame.

There's only two things you really need to fix anything, Duct Tape
and WD-40. If it's supposed to move and it doesn't, use WD-40. If
it moves and it's not supposed to, use Duct Tape.

In my computer I can see pretty much his hair separated from background.I want to know because I know it is a long time that I do my monitor calibration.

I would like to know from others too because I have some other pics to post.I don't want people see too much different from what I am seing here.
Thanks for the inputs Michael.

I actually like this shot more than many of the ones I see on this forum. For his particularly devilish look I think his hands beyond our view works: As if he is saying to the camera, "you can't contain me".

I'm not very experienced with lighting, but I know what I like. (actually haven't taken a single "lit" picture...still researching here first) but this shot really works for me. I don't like standard portrait backgrounds, and I like how with his hands out of view and non-distracting background, my view is drawn toward his face. I also like the decreasing exposure of his pants as well.

To me this shot has expression in his arms, shoulders, and neck; as well as his face.

His hair is very distinct from the background on my CRT monitor. Some laptop monitors lack contrast.

Just to be clear, on my laptop depending on the angle I view the screen at some or all of the hair blends in. In the best position, the hair near the ears, particularly on the left size blends in with the background. On my LCD attached to my desktop computer, only the hair near the ears blends in. Note, both of these are LCD screens, I have never color corrected the screens, I am using Linux (Red Hat 9) and mozilla to view the website, and I am slightly blue-green color blind. So the difference may be in my setup. It would be interesting to hear if anybody else has a problem.

Michael I think you got a problem my friend :)

I see a good separation between hair and background on this one.Just the jeans is blending at the bottom.
I did again my calibration just to make sure.

Alciniea, I like this image. The composition and lighting work well together to create an interesting image. Also, you were able to capture some of the strong personality of the subject. Good job.

Alcineia,

From this side of the screen, I can easily see his hair is separated from the background all around, but not by very much on his right side.

Given that most people have their monitors set up with the factory defaults, you might use more separation if you're shooting for only web display.

In any event, a nice job with what I know from experience can be a most difficult sort of subject.
