I'm waiting for Black Friday to see if there is any good deals for what I need. I basically want the best bang-for-the-buck point-and-shoot camera that I can get with a max budget of around $350 shipped. I'm just a newbie but my last DSLR was a Nikon D3000 that I sold because I needed money.

Any ideas? Please help. Thanks.

Where can I buy a Nex-5R for less?
Samy's Camera is currently the cheapest at US$450 but it may be discounted more on the Black Friday sales. Samy's only has 4 left, though.
I thought you said earlier that I can get it for around $350?
You can get the Sony A3000 for $350 which is a 20mpix APS-C camera that uses e-mount.

You can buy a returned Sony Nex-F3 for $300, 16mpix APS-C

You can get a Samsung Nx1000, 20mpix APS-C for $350

Thank you

I said you might find... (on Black Friday).

But you can definitely buy a refurbished Nex-3N for US$350.

Make sure whatever you buy comes with a bundled lens (is not "body only").
Oh ok, sorry about that.

I'm not too comfortable buying a refurbished camera though.

Which online sellers usually bring out good Black Friday deals?

or you can buy a brand new canon eos m with 18-55 for $305. The af not that bad after the firmware update and you get high resolution screen!

I've seen an A3000. It has the same size and shape format of a dSLR.

Someone is selling an ex-display F3 on Amazon for US$335. I would personally get a 3N in preference.

The NX1100 is available for US$320. It is this year's nearly identical replacement for the NX1000.

A Samsung NX210 with 18-55mm lens is US$369. The lens is better but larger than the unstabilised 20-50mm lens on the NX1100. It has an OLED display instead of an LCD.

Hard to beat this, US $299 and comes with LR.

That's a nice deal as well. I don't really know much about the Samsung mirrorless cameras, so didn't know to look for that one. I had seen the NX1000 on woot, so knew it existed and could be had for around the price the OP was looking in.

Thank you

I'm caught up between the 3N and 5R now but I'm not sure if can fit my tight budget. Which online stores usually offer good Black Friday deals?

What I want in a point and shoomacramé ra are a usable viewfinder when the right sun makes it difficult o use the LCD screen, a manual zoom (never could frame accurately with the motorized zooms) and decent high iso performance at high ISO. So far my Fuji x10 has filled the bill with excellenttics to boot.

If you can still find one the Nikon V1 with the twin lens kit is unbelievable value for money. A quality camera that has been heavily discounted.

Most have been snapped up by canny buyers.

I guess this is why nobody knows about the NX1000 and NX1100

The NX210 should be much better.

Based on your comments, it would be a mistake for you to buy a multi-lens camera of any kind, no matter the price. None of those camera will fit in a pocket or be as convenient as your phone. If you don't understand the specs of the various models others have suggested, very they are irrelevant to your needs.

The V1 and NEX cameras are nice, and some sell relatively cheap right now, but any of them will set you back by at least $400, and you'd likely never use many of their features.

You want, as you stated, a point and shoot camera that costs little and takes better pictures than other stuff in its league.

If $600 for a Sony RX100 is too much for your budget, then I'd suggest a Panasonic LX7, whose Amazon price is currently around $320, but which may fall to $275 or less on Black Friday. The LX7 auto mode is pretty good and it truly is a lot of bang for the buck.

The Canon S120, Olympus XZ-2, and Nikon 1 J3 are also decent cameras, but cost more.

By the way, I don't recommend buying any camera as a gift for anyone. Ordinary people don't need or use dedicated cameras any more. Enthusiasts, on the other hand, are better off picking their own devices.

Thanks for the comment. I really like the Nex-3N or Nex-5R but the price is just too high right now. I wonder how much would they go for on Black Friday.

The 16-50mm lens would protrude 19mm more than the LX7's lens but other than that the Nex-3N's body is actually smaller than the LX7's.

you requested point-n-shoot opinions, your NEX choice is not a point-n-shoot camera

Most cameras have auto mode, which makes them 'point and shoot'. Most point and shoot cameras have manually selected parameters. It all boils down to choice and price.

one of the requirements of a point-n-shoot camera, it has a FIXED lens. NEX cameras are not fixed, which makes it LARGER and size means everything to a point-n-shoot camera....

You asked...What is the category of the Nex-3N then?

ANSWER: Mirrorless
