One from the Yellowstone trip I took last month. Almost forgot about this one as it was on a seldom used CF card. Glad I looked again before formatting the card. :-) Enjoy!

Taken with 1Ds & 16-35 f2.8 L lens. Focal length 31mm SS 1/125 f 14 Iso 100 Matrix metering Matrix 3 color setting. Shot in 11MP JPEG 10. Cropped and resized for the web.

At first I shot JPEG because I was naive and wanted quantity over quality.
Then I shot RAW, because I was still naive but wanted quality over
quantity. Now I've gone back to JPEG because I'm no longer naive, and I
want both quantity and quality.

JPG is spot on - once you get the exposure right there are no real issues with JPG and the simplified workflow is a bonus. Thanks for posting.

Nice to see you here, Mahesh! You usually seem to post over in the Fuji forum.
The photo, of course, is your usual fabulous work.
thanks for sharing

The file size of the 1Ds is more than ample for high quality jpegs. I have also left adobe 98 and returned to sRGB files. Life is too short to spend it on a computer, and the image quality, even up to 24" X 36," produces excellent results.

What are the file sizes of a JPEG Lg/Fine image?

An expanded JPEG file, when you check in Photo-Paint 9 is nine plus megs.

Thanks in advance.

I use C1 so I am spoilt....

Love the ability to tweak the exposure and saturation and white balance / temp before I develop. (Plus trashing those that are not "worthy"

It's 1/2 an hour well spent.... then I hit "develop" and go off and do some other stuff.....

Gotta love it!!!!

for those special moments or assignments, raw is the way to go.

For family outings, road-trips and such, I am at the point that I can use JPEG with confidence and not worry about it. It is a waste of my time to shoot raw for a 4x6 or 5x7 or e-mail a web shot. This is were we agree.

I have several workflows--- and like you, I prefer the jpeg one over the raw one.

Since I only do photography for "Art's" sake, I have the luxury of being able to check each an every exposure to my heart's content. That being said, the only benefit of RAW has to do with the saving and resaving of an image, a lossy process.

To protect the image, I just replace the image but don't resave the image, at zero compression. So I have three images to work from. First is the original image, copied as it is on the CF card to the HDD. The second image is the original that's been leveled, curved and airbrushed as needed, which is saved, zero compression, so I don't have to redue the image work again but saved unsharpened. The final image is the original that's been leveled, curved, airbrushed, resized accordingly, using ten percent steps and finally sharpened using a "directional sharpening" routine. It's easy on the image and leaves out the USM artifacts. This is a good thing.

After which the image is printed before getting saved, for maximum image quality. Time from HDD to printer is but a few minutes, not counting airbrush time.

I know something must be gettin lost when converting from RAW to TIFF. Nothing is lost or introduced to the image during the conversion process?

Thanks, Dave! Thought I'd venture out of my "home" a bit and see what's up in the Canon SLR world :-)

The file size depends on the ISO. But most of my shots (iso 100) at the lowest compression JPEG 11MP are between 5.5 and 6.5 megs, depending on how much color is in the scene. Opens up in PS as 31 MB "expanded" image.

This is good info as it tells me how large I can go at 200dpi printing with the LightJet 5000. A straight file will give me a 16"X20" image with the smallest of resizing.

The biggest a D30 will give me, all things equal, is 8"X10". So you can see how much difference there is in information, when it comes to print size.

This will make a difference to me if and when a 3D is announced in September.

Thanks again!
