I don't know if it's a special pre-order price, someone typoed, or what... but Ricoh USA (Pentax Webstore) is offering the K-3 Silver bundle at 1499.95 rather than the 1599.95 from the press release. For what it's worth, Adorama has it at 1646.95!

Whether that's a special pre-order price, I've no idea, but at least Ricoh should actually be getting stock of this. :)

Looks like Battery Grip is not included in the Ricoh offer ($1499). It is listed as optional accessory.

What's in the Box:
  • Li-Ion Battery D-LI90
  • Battery Charger Kit K-BC90
  • Strap O-ST132
  • Hotshoe Cover FK
  • Eyecup FS
  • Body Mount Cover
  • Finder Cap ME
  • Focusing Screen MF-60 Frame Matte
  • PC Socket Cap
  • Silver battery grip
  • Software CD-ROM S-SW140
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES:
  • Battery Grip D-BG5
- See more at: http://www.pentaxwebstore.com/product/45034#sthash.jwEU5Hh0.dpuf

Its is included, it says "Silver battery grip". Focusing frame that is included is also in the list of optional accessories.

I find it amusing that a silver body is higher in price than a black body: I recall a long time ago paying more for a black body, largely because I needed a couple of features it had. It was noted at the time that the black body was "less likely to show up in reflections, thus was more pro oriented".

Considering that the silver edition disappeared off Adorama's site two days ago and lots of people posting online saying that they've pre-ordered it, I think demand has outstripped supply several times over.

I've ordered the silver edition from Pentax USA but I deeply suspect that they won't be able to supply one to me. I'll take a black one instead. Or Pentax Japan may give in and re-manufacture another run of the silver ones to satisfy the demand.

I keep checking the Pentax Japan site to see if they've released the manual online. There's a few things I'd like to know about how does the 'movie' button really work.

Today I got an update from that my order (pre-ordered on 10/8 on pentaxwebstore) is backordered and will take additional 30 days and they suggested canceling. I have this suspicion that they are back-peddling on orders made with $1499.00 price because they have overwhelming orders with their corrected price of $1599.00

I ordered mine on 10/7 and just got the same email.

My 10/7 order confirmation says $1499 and the back order email I just got says $1599.

They say "If you wish to cancel your order, please call us at 1-800-243-8633, or e-mail us at the address listed above. We believe the wait will be worthwhile, but of course the choice is yours."

I have the K-5iis to hold me over so I'll wait!

I got shipment notice today. My order confirmation says $1499.00, but they charged $1599.00 on my credit card. I am wondering if Pentax Webstore posted the $1499.00 incorrectly and they are silently correcting it.

I would feel like a grumpy jerk at a customer service counter in Wal-Mart were I to start yelling "You posted this price and I deserve to get it!" It obviously was a keyboard error on someone's part, and people make human errors. Nor am I rich enough that $100 won't make a difference on the silver 20-40mm. I'm just not the kind of person to make someone's error my windfall.

It's VERY SIMPLE. Even if that WAS an error on their part, that order confirmation from them constitutes A WRITTEN CONTRACT. They're in violation of that contract to the tune of $100. Contact your credit card company. Don't tell them you think it was a mistake, just tell them the facts, that you bought it at $1,500, got an order confirmation for that price, and they charged your card $1,600, and volunteer to forward them the email with your order confirmation. IT WON'T MATTER to them if it was an error by Ricoh. Ricoh sent you a written contract. They'll make them stand by it, and you'll get a $100 rebate off that charge on your credit card.

Wait until you get it and make sure you have everything and it works, and THEN do it. You have at least 30 days, I think. TRUST ME, you WILL WIN THIS. A contract is a contract and when it's big business against the consumer and a CC company is involved, the consumer ALWAYS gets the benefit of the doubt -- ESPECIALLY when he or she has written proof, which an email confirmation legally constitutes in this day and age.

No, I'm not a lawyer, but I've watched a lot of them on TV, lol.

P.S. There are probably MANY, MANY folks who got the $1,499 deal but got billed $1,599. MOST will do like you were thinking and just eat the extra hundred, since that's what everyone else is selling it for, anyway, and Ricoh KNOWS that, which is why they're charging your CC for the actual price instead of the price they promised. Just the THOUGHT (SHUDDER) that a customer or two like you might raise enough of a ruckus that there's suddenly a CLASS ACTION SUIT where EVERYONE who got that deal suddenly has to get their $100 back would be enough to keep them from arguing with the CC company!

Jeff,

Your reading of the situation (in terms of a contractual agreement) is correct. I called pentaxwebstore-- they looked at my order confirmation and gave $100 credit. I think the disconnect is when my CC was charged at the time of shipment they looked at the current listed price for the product and not the one it was at the time of the order.

If there is anyone else out there that ordered it at this price you should contact them.

I emailed them with the original invoice and they will credit $100 back to my card.

For those of you who have a silver already... I heard some people say it comes with an extra battery. Is that true?

I would always contact the seller first to work out an error, and if that fails go through the credit card company.

PentaxWebstore can always back out of their deal, but they need to refund money etc. They shouldn't try to bill for correct price after invoicing for a different price, that is probably illegal or against CC terms of service anyway.

There is usually a time window for raising the flag with the credit card company, so going to them first is actually the right thing to do. Don't let the dealer sweet-coddle you, they'll just as soon forget that they said they would refund the difference.

. . . and two storage trays for the battery grip. One holds AA batteries, the other stores a the second D-Li90 and an SD card.
