It looks nice in many ways, and you will be able to see all the settings at the top of the camera in one view. Also it looks quite expensive with all these solid dials. They have surely tried to make this a solid camera that can take some beating.

The same person that provided the pictures also posted a picture of a removable plastic eye cup, just like the old days.

Some thoughts ...

- It will cost a lot, suspect D800 and above territory

- No EVF eye detector, still a chance there will be a hybrid viewfinder

- No onboard flash that I can see

- No video mode that I can see for the videophiles

- Every manual switch dial I can think of, brilliantly placed and looks to set a benchmark in design

- Rear left vertical buttons ... not a fan of this (have used older Nikon D300s), wished they moved these to the right hand side like Canon

- Aesthetically it looks gorgeous, definitely will stand out from the current m4/3 mirrorless retry designes, the only camera that I can think of that looks as good is the fixed lens Fujifilm X100S

I like to think of myself as too rational to be a sucker for retro design, but I like this :) The price will probably keep me from doing anything foolish.

Yes I think it looks amazing.

They had a lot of existing competition. I think the Olympus E-M5 looked brilliant but was ergonomically uncomfortable, especially the grip. The E-M1 initially looked good but the longer I look at it the more fugly it becomes. The Panasonic GX7 looks too bland. The Fujifilm X100S looks timeless.

This however looks to be a home run both aesthetically and function wise.

Dreading the price tag too :-)

Can see a lot of posts soon about the A7/A7R + lack of lenses + low price + small size vs Nikon DF + lots of lens + high price + better looks + larger size debates coming up.

It will be interesting to see what they price it at. First thing I noticed was the "Made in Japan". That will increase the price . NikonRumours site was down when I tried ths morning and still doesn't seem to be up. Must have gotten quite a bit of traffic after these pictures posted. Well tomorrow or tonight isn't far away to get the details.

Bless my soul. If those are the real thing then it looks just luscious. Sleep may be elusive tonight.

Yeah mentioned above the price too ... this will not be cheap, not to mention that good looking piece of glass on the front!

A7/A7R + lack of native lenses at launch + adapter to 3rd party lens + low body price + small size and weight

vs

Nikon DF + lots of lens + higher price + better looks + larger size and weight

Still waiting on the specs ... but for those who already have Nikon glass or are happy with the few that will be designed for this camera it will be a winner.

Also, depending on the success of this camera, I wonder if Nikon will branch out to both lower and higher models with similar retro design.

5d2 owner is almost drooling at those nikonrumors images... i would love for everything to be simple as that has shown to be. i think that should be quite the success if thats the real camera!

cheers, nate

It is a FM2 front, with a D600/D800 rear. Nice cool toy. But for all practical purposes, I'll stay with D600/D800.

As I mentioned in another thread (there will be many threads, I'm sure, about this camera) it seems to be the camera most D700 owners were looking for, (rumored) higher resolution (D4 24MP sensor) in a (presumably) well made body. I'd have been happy with these suggested specs regardless of the styling, though personally I like the mechanical dials (I also have an X100s).

So setting the aperture on lenses without a ring, are we going to have to get used to using our thumb wheel instead of our finger like it's currently configured on their other cameras? That's going to take a while to get used to. Anyone care to guess what the larger round dial on the face of the camera is for? I hope that's not for Aperture adjustment.

Looks like the Nikon designers took the Fuji & Sony retro models tossed them in a room with a 100 monkeys & this is what came out.

How would one use the drive mode? With a fingernail? What's with the front dial? That looks like it's easy to use </sarcasm> And tell me why they wasted all the space with the LCD? I need to see battery & shots full time why? (when everything else is manual)

Reminds me of an Accord I sat in a couple of years ago & the radio had 6.2 million buttons......all of which were too small to be truly practical. Looks like Nikon's designers are grasping at straws. The Bahaus look of the V1 was ragged so they went the other way "you want BUTTONS!!?? we give you BUTTONS!!!!!" with little thought to where the line of excess might be. Like the ISO/Exp comp look good, the drive looks stupid........little thinking, just "more is better". Also, 1/4000? No F1.4 in daylight that seems a given.

All that really counts is what's on the inside but looks like Nikon hire the Q10 group :D
